Pretty much it's just a nostalgia type thing. Americans have this hot rod gene that just can't be supressed, and this is what happens when enough people yell at an automaker. Mainly, what would a classic good ol' muscle car be like with today's technology? The design of the cars in those years were utterly beautiful! Alas, stricter emissions standards hampered their performance, and safety regulations hampered their design. Which is why in the 80's when safety started being put infront of performance (partially in part to the oil crisis) almost ALL cars looked like rolling blocks of... SAME-NESS!!!
And as far as looking like the Camaro, all firebirds shared the same chassis and main body panels, so as to cut costs, as D3V said. And as far as looking like the Mustang, I don't see the similarities...
And talented, I only wish I could find a girl like you... cars and video games... my god how perfect life would be!

Well, you carry a UB-21 Schnauzer with an OPS Silencer, that's KGB, You prefer an 18-K over an AK, Your surveillance technique is NSA, Your ID is CIA, you recieved your PHD at NYU, traded in your GTO for a BMW, you listen to CD's by REM and STP, and you'd like to see JFK in his BVDs getting down with OPP and you probably put the toilet paper back on the roll with the paper on the inside...
