2012 Firebird?
So, Hot Rod Magazine got to see the building of the first Camaros. One is being built for the Grand Am, a Dale Earnhardt Jr. Edition, a "Camaro Black" version (with a V6), and one with the C6 Z06 LS7. And all that is fine and dandy, until I reached the pages with the sketches of a 2012 Firebird, drawn by Murray Pfaff, a Detroit Auto Designer. It's only an idea floating around GM supposedly but I would like to see one if it looked like any of these designs...

I struggle to see any difference at all between the Firebird and other, regular Camaro's (which, might I add, all look the same, too!). I find I have the same problem with the majority of American muscle cars, but that's beside the point.
I'm sorry to say that the Firebird looks like a very boring car in my European eyes. What exactly is so special about it? |
There is a lot of tradition with it, really. I do agree though that these two cars really are almost identical. Then again, all American cars these days look almost identical, they have to save money for productional reasons and making everything interchangeable saves a ton of money.

Pretty much it's just a nostalgia type thing. Americans have this hot rod gene that just can't be supressed, and this is what happens when enough people yell at an automaker. Mainly, what would a classic good ol' muscle car be like with today's technology? The design of the cars in those years were utterly beautiful! Alas, stricter emissions standards hampered their performance, and safety regulations hampered their design. Which is why in the 80's when safety started being put infront of performance (partially in part to the oil crisis) almost ALL cars looked like rolling blocks of... SAME-NESS!!!
And as far as looking like the Camaro, all firebirds shared the same chassis and main body panels, so as to cut costs, as D3V said. And as far as looking like the Mustang, I don't see the similarities... And talented, I only wish I could find a girl like you... cars and video games... my god how perfect life would be! :D |
I'd say if anything, it looks like Chevy ripped off Dodge's new Challenger.
