Post Battle! Samus vs. Turok

Posted 2003-09-20, 03:04 AM
Arena: Winterbane Canyon- A frozen, snow-covered box canyon. A football field-sized plain, surrounded on all sides by steep cliff faces, and dotted by large ice columns, snow drifts, and a frozen river running through its middle. Ice caves and tunnels are carved into the rock sides, connecting in a webwork of passageways leading in and out of the cliffs at varying heights. Lots of high ground to be found on the surrounding canyon walls.

In the Red Corner, not doing her good looks any favors in that battle suit. Equipped with the advanced Power Armor of the immortal Chozo, Power Beam Arm Cannon (with additional Beam types and misslies), multi-purpose helmet visors, Grappling beam and Morph Ball! The Great Defender of Chozo Prophecy, the scourge of the Space Pirates, from Metroid: Samus Aran!!!

And in the Blue Corner, wearing as little clothing as Samus should be wearing! Equipped with his Tek Bow, Alien Gun, Chronoscepter and a ton of other stuff that I can't really remember! The native american dinosaur destroyer, the loincloth champion, from Turok: Dinosaur Hunter: Turok!!!

One of our combatants wields enough equipment to fell an entire army. The other carries enough weaponry and tactical knowledge to conquer any foe. Who will reign supreme in this battle of guns, guns and more guns!? Pick up your Plasma Beams and start shooting! This one is going to be a slobberknocker!

Well I would really be pulling for Turok on this one. I just don't see how it's possible though.

Samus is faster than Turok. She has a lot more armor than Turok. She is also more agile than Turok.

Turok definately has more and better firepower. The Chronoscepter would kill Samus in one hit, but it would have to be a direct hit. Unfortunately, that's not an easy thing to do. He could use his pink gun to do splash damage (BFG9000 style), and it wouldn't miss. However, I think Samus would be able to take the damage and keep coming.

Tek Arrows, Explosive Shotgun Shells, and a Pointy Knife are a lot cooler than Samus's weaponry, but I believe the infamous, "I am Turok!!!!" is just outmatched here.

I was going to roleplay a scenario in which Samus gets owned, but as much as I like my Turok, I can't really see a half-naked warrior defeating a highly armoured opponent equipped with state of the art shitums, so I wont bother wasting my time.

It's a shame seeing such unbalanced matches as these. You guys should have spent a lot more time balancing out where characters start in the bracket, and who their beginning opponent would be. It would have provided better debates, and a overall better experience.

I think this was matched up very well. There are some great Battles, and some great possible battles.

Samus could just screw attack until a moment was open to launch everything she's got a Turok, not to mention her armor would own anything he throws at her.

There weren't a whole lot of options here, Uncapped. I tried to balance it as much as possible by using two characters of similar capability, and I happen to think that this match is pretty fairly balanced. What would you have preferred, Turok vs. Sephiroth?

If all that you're thinking about is her armor, and how much equipment she can use, then you're not thinking creatively at all. Wouldn't Turok be capable of setting traps for her? Using the tunnel systems to confuse her? If the fact that he's not wearing power armor is what's blokcing your ability to form a coherent argument, then you need to start being more open-minded about this.

I'd have to spend a while thinking.

Then spend the necessary time thinking about it. It's taking the time to form an interesting argument that creates original and entertaining battles.

If I were Samus, I'd say screw the tunnels. Litterally. Screw attack through the tunnels. If you happen to run over the twerp, he's dead. If he attacks you, it's harmless (heck, even the jaws of the oh-so-powerful queen Metroid can't hurt Samus while she's screw attacking). Use the infra and xray vision to scan for traps. Either that, or I'd setup camp in the high ground. After all, he can't win unless he kills me, and he can't do that from the tunnels unless I go into the tunnels.

Well, the votes are in and (inspite of being short one judge) a decision has been made! Please make your way to the Bracket Thread for the winner announcement!
