Well, not everyone lives in the USA, but the majority of us do. And, so, I suspect we all have some knowledge of this detestable organization. It serves two main goals:
1) Spur the "exceedingly intelligent" children on to surrounding themselves with their own kind, segregating them from the masses and boosting their level of arrogance to the level of they are either Jesus Christ or at least St. Michael the Archangel.
2) Put the "less intelligent" in their place and make sure they are wholy aware of the kids who are in the NHS, shoving how inferior they are into their face and beating into their mind they're future careers entail cubicles and a frier.
No, I am not a bitter loser with my panties in a bunch. I know I'm stupid. But, I also know a few people who are ages smarter than any of the punks in the NHS and they are not suffering under messianic delusions. (good phrase, thanks Moebius)

Are you high?
I remember being in the National Honor Society in High School. I can already feel the growing grin of Sir DoucheBag Kaneda and Lady Douchebag Thanatos. Well after I joined I found out that you had to do community services, and their meetings were mandatory. Although I don't whole-heartedly agree with Dark Jedi, I attended the first meeting feeling somewhat the same way. Everyone seemed rich, stuck up, and wanted the world to evolve around them. I don't despise them, I don't really care, because I only went to two meeting. It was taking up time I spent with my friends in the mornings.
Funny part of it was, if you missed two meetings, or didn't complete the community service, you were expected to be expelled. Turns out, two years later, when I went to take my senior picture, they still had my name on the roster, and offered me to wear an NHS stole. I declined.
