Followup Azurewrath vs Crescent Test

As a side note/followup I popped the Azurewrath onto my Tesladin and switched out a fervor jewel for a facet to see how it'd work (since it has a faster IAS than Crescent).

I basically was figuring what might be better: The extra -30% lit resistance (remember I was able to take out a fervor jewel and use a facet due to Az's better IAS so its -30 instead of -35) and small chance of static combined with ignore target def from the crescent vs the extra skill, enormous bonus magic and cold damage, increased physical damage (compared to crescent). I socketed it with an eth rune for -25% def (if I was richer for these tests I suppose I could just use a jah and get ignore target defense and negate that CM advantage). The salvation aura being eye candy but the +attributes not going unnoticed.

I was surprised actually to find that Azurewrath, contrary to all those tesladin guides out there that are focusing on the -35% lit res was more effective....in general. Why? Dealing with lightning immunes and especially dual phys/lit was so much easier. I noticed it slowing down (i mean its like 1-6000 damage less times 5 for each zeal swing if I hit) but far far far less than using a crescent due to the cold and magic damage (salvation helped a little probably on undead). For everything else it still seemed to go a bit faster so I took a step back to think about that.

Some numbers:

With my current gear and no charms besides an anni my tesla does the following:

Fists without auras: 60-311
Fists with Holy Shock: 62-6230 damage total with holy shock.
With Azurewrath and holy shock: 1219-8305
With Crescent moon and holy shock: 629-6865 (keep in mind this is higher than it really is because Im wearing a 5/5 facet and I should be wearing a fervor jewel now instead to hit my last breakpoint)

Assuming its not lightning immune adding in the 35% bonus (since Im wearing a facet I shouldnt be Im using 35% instead of 30% to at least keep the error consistant) I get upwards of 629-8937 with the crescent.

Now here's the issue:

Avg Damage Azurewrath (non immune, no charms but anni): about 4762
Avg Damage: Crescent (non immune, no charms but anni): about 4783

Now keeping in mind that crescent damage is overestimated (by about 5%) and the fact there are tons of lightning immunes such that having different sources of damage is useful I cannot in good confidence say that the crescent moon so often proclaimed to be the best tesladin weapon is indeed the best. With skill charms this will probably be a little different as the lightning damage will be higher and thus the crescent moon will shine a bit more. If you really want to duel with a tesladin (i really dont recommend it due to stacked resists and absorb in addition to the fact you have to sacrifice DR gear to hit your breakpoints...it just doesnt work as well as a well built phys zealot or a cold one) I suppose the crescent will help out more as well, but the fact that the guides out there for the most part paint the tesladin as mostly pvm (mostly because the phys and cold ones will destroy them usually) will lead me to believe people will be carrying around less skill charms than the pvp 5-10 so they can pick up stuff.

In the end though for pvm I still think there are better answers than the crescent. Its great bang for the buck and surely fits with the build but is it the end all? No. I think there are some other rune words for high end tesladins that are superior and if you're rich enough to jah an Azurewrath you're looking at more versitility and only losing the small static field chance though an eth rune works just fine since you probably have a decent dex to use a phase blade and some points into the blessed aim skill for the passive bonus. (usually you dont need static as frankly by the time it triggers with the sheer speed and damage you deal it doesnt even work)

Basically just a well known lesson but often forgotten: guides aren't perfect, especially when it comes to what exact gear you are using. The cookie cutter answers sometimes are good or look appealing but aren't always the best. They often deal with theoreticals and "perfect" gear setups most cant find no matter how rich they are without risking their gear poofing on them. While some of the guides here for instance are written by people who've actually played the character others are just people speculating and have no practical experience actually going into a game and using it.

well for PVM i would recomend the Cresant moon for the static shock because it is really helpful if the enemy is not lightning immune.

Personally for PVM i think a good combo would be a Frost Zealot because of holy freeeze slowing almost everything. And the for a switch weapon you could have on a Cresant moon Phase or something that is really fast just so you can deal with the Immune to cold baddies.

Problem is theres a bazillion lightning immunes and the chance for static is relatively low. Most of the times you're dealing huge amounts of damage such that by the time it triggers the monster is already below 50%. I keep it on the switch of late unless Im going with OKs in which case I have the passion pb on the switch. If you're just cowing then fantastic...use the CM by all means. Also remember it depends on your gear too. All Im saying is look at the differences in damage for your character before blindly following a guide.
