After I installed my wireless internet card on my old pc, my sound started going gay. I could't record any more and when i opened applications, it played the clicking noise, the one it always does, but for some reason it just kept repeating non stop.
So now i can't record and sometimes i can't play music.
The only time i can record is after removing and reinserting the sound card, but that only works until i open msnmessenger.
Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem. I am running windows 98SE.
Older computers (assuming its old because you are using windows 98) have a known draw back when it comes to IRQ assignments on PCI slots. When you installed your wireless NIC was it in the slot near your sound card? You may want to move either the NIC or the sound card to another PCI slot on your Motherboard. Usually adjacent PCI slots share IRQs. If you could get a free PCI slot between your devices you should be set. If not, then you may have to juggle between the slots to see what works. Some devices share nicely and some dont.
thanx, i will try it, My sound card is right below my internet card, i will switch the sound card with the old modem slot so their will be a slot between them. That should work.
Note, my PCI slots go as follow starting from the top.
Wireless Network Card
Normal Ethernet Card
Empty slot
Sound, video and gaming card
Dial-up modem card
Empty slot
After I changed a few things around, it still didn't work. The only thing that happened was the pc identified a new piece of hard ware, the ethernet card i moved.
Help still please!!!!!!!! If no one knows anything, should iI just go to like Staples and ask them. I dont want to do that if someone on this forum know how to fix it, cause at Staples, they wil be like 'you need a new sound card' and i dont want to get one if i can get the one i have working properly.
