There, officially voted 1. Not only do I think the design looks groovy, but as RS said, it is a lot more clear and easier on the icons than the second.

Well, 1 is more "intense" when looking at it, more fun to focus on it. But 2 is more fun in general, I dunno. Really an opinion thing, probably 2 since it's a desktop...

Yeah, but he doesnt exactly have alot of icons.... sooo I figured it wouldn't matter, since he'll remember where things are anyways.
