For Immediate Release

Toronto, ON -- (June 24, 2003) - In an effort to revive tourism in Toronto and revitalize the economy by bringing people and new energy to the city the Rolling Stones have agreed to headline a spectacular music event “Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto”. A partnership between the Federal Government, the Province of Ontario, the City of Toronto, the private sector, spearheaded by Molson and the creative talents of Rolling Stones tour promoter Michael Cohl announced today that the concert will take place on July 30th at Toronto’s Downsview Park.

“Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto” will be an eight-hour music event beginning at 2PM and topping off with a full set by the Rolling Stones. In order to accommodate this unexpected and important event in the middle of their sold-out European “Licks” tour, the band had to postpone one show and cancel another.

They will be joined by an incredible list of international and Canadian artists including AC/DC, The Guess Who, Justin Timberlake, Sam Roberts, The Flaming Lips, Kathleen Edwards, The Isley Brothers, Sass Jordan, La Chicane and your hosts Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi with “Have Love Will Travel”. Multiple video screens and special sound equipment will be brought in to ensure that fans have an incredible experience. A block of tickets has been allocated for US and international fans.

“We’re looking forward to coming back to Toronto. We’ve rehearsed in Toronto for our last three tours and it is one of our very favourite cities. We’re really pleased to be part of an exciting event that will bring people back to Toronto,” said the Rolling Stones.

Michael Cohl, tour promoter for the Rolling Stones said, “I was called by all three levels of government to see whether or not I could get the Rolling Stones to come and help support Toronto. I couldn’t think of a better way to create worldwide visibility for the city other than to have the Rolling Stones interrupt their tour and make a special trek across the ocean to help out Toronto. I am confident that this will be the largest attended concert ever in Toronto. Imagine the Rolling Stones and a dozen or more other great acts for only $21.50 Canadian or $16.00 in the U.S.”

This concert event is presented by Molson Canadian. “We want to show the world that Toronto is back to being the great city it has always been,” said Dan O’Neill, President & CEO, Molson Inc. “That’s why we’re hoping the Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto concert will attract tourists from across the US and around the world. July 30 will be a day to remember in Toronto and Molson will be closing early to let our employees head out and enjoy the Rolling Stones and their friends. It would be great if other businesses did the same and really got behind the city.”

This once-in-a-lifetime special event comes during a trying and difficult time for the City of Toronto and for Canada.

Senator Jerry Grafstein, Toronto and Dennis Mills, MP Toronto-Danforth stated on behalf of the Greater Toronto Area Caucus: “This has been a team effort from the start. This concert is a true testament to how the private and public sectors can work together and help a city during an extremely difficult time. After a lot of effort by many people, we can all be proud of what we are doing to support the City of Toronto, and the industries that have been deeply affected over the past few months. We particularly want to thank the Rolling Stones and Michael Cohl for making this possible.”

“Our goal is to showcase Toronto to the world and put tourism in Ontario firmly back on the road to recovery,” said Ontario’s Minister of Tourism and Recreation, Brian Coburn. “Events like this along with our hugely successful Concert for Toronto this past weekend, are providing Toronto with more events for thousands of residents and visitors to enjoy.”

“Events like this are one of the reasons why Toronto remains the greatest city in the world,” said Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman, who noted that he intends to declare July 30th Rolling Stones and Molson Canadian Rocks Toronto Day. “This concert will be the perfect opportunity for tourists to come back to Toronto and for residents to re-discover all their city has to offer. We want everyone to book a room in one of our world-class hotels, taste some of our famous cuisine and experience one of the most exciting musical events in recent history.”

Tickets for “Molson Canadian Rocks for Toronto” will be $21.50 Canadian or $16.00 U.S. plus applicable service charges, and are on sale beginning Friday, June 27th through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.ca or 888.808.8660). $1 from every ticket sold will be donated to the newly created Health Care and Hospitality Workers Relief Fund. Net proceeds from this concert will also go to this fund.

It matters not whether you win or lose; what matters is whether I win or lose.
