Nvidia has today confirmed that is GeForce FX 5900 Ultra graphics card is shipping to stores across North America and will go on sale on July 4. Priced at $499, Nvidia's new flagship GPU is a worthy adversary for ATI's Radeon 9800 Pro, which was released back in April.

"Shipments of the GeForce FX family of GPUs are in full swing," said Shane Vance, executive vice president of sales at BFG Technologies, Inc. "We're thrilled to bring this card to market, as it meets and exceeds the wildest expectations of any consumer looking to make the most of their computing experience."

"The GeForce brand is known for delivering a powerful and reliable gaming experience for every market segment," said Jeff Fisher, executive vice president of worldwide sales at Nvidia. "We're thrilled that the complete family of GeForce FX GPUs is available for people gearing up to play the hottest new PC games like Star War Galaxies: An Empire Divided and Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness."

For more information on the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra, check out the results of our recent benchmark test where we compared its performance to that of the Radeon 9800 Pro.

It won't beat 9800 Pro either. ATI will dominate the market so soon.

ACTUALLY if u read teh most recent benchmarks, The geforce outperforms the radeon in things where all teh high end feeatures anisotropic filtering, trilinear, full antialiasing, etc. but with ALL of those features OFF (WHY WOULD ANYBODY DO THAT???) the radeon blew the geforce away. regardless, they are withing only a few fps of each otehr in almsot every category, and additional cooling etc, can easily solve that. ITs also well known that wehen nvidia releases new drivers, rediculously large performance increases come from driver upgrades alone, several % ussually, and the radeon can hardly match that by drivers. The reality is they are just very very similar, with teh exception of teh radeon using ddr2 memory at 10 mhz faster clock speed, which is basically a negligible difference. Now that teh card shipped, alienware can finally send me my new damn system i ordered....

Nvidia drivers do not help performance. Third party drivers for nVidia hardware help performance. This is because nVidia can't make drivers for shit.

It's no insult to ATI to say that other people's drivers don't make their gear run faster...

ATI has guarenteed a new catalyst driver every month though, they seem to be sticking to it too. The 3.6's just came out.
