Square and Enix merge (we're serious!)

On April 1st, 2003 (we know it is April Fools, don't make any stupid remarks now) it has been reported that the two most popular RPG corporations in Japan will merge.
This is not a complete surprise, as we reported about a year ago that Namco, Square, and Enix had all bought stock in each other. Closer financial ties have obviously led into something much more serious.
One of the reasons for the merge, sources say, was the current saturation of the market, as well as higher development costs in the industry.
The new company will be called Enix, Square, Inc. ... which isn't exactly the coolest looking name. I imagine people will just end up calling them "Enix-Square" or something. Square will be absorbed by Enix on paper, with its structure, assets, and what not all being integrated into the existing Enix shell.
For all of you who pay attention, Chrono Trigger was in fact, a joint effort between staff from both Enix and Square. Thinking about how good that game was, we probably shouldn't be too worried about these two companies working together. I'm fairly certain nothing but great games can come out of this union.
