When protesters are taking over military bases and commandeering tanks, you know shit is about to go down.

Unfortunately, Gaddafi will probably be less likely to be peaceful, and more likely to steamroll the protesters as a result.

Apparently he already has been. That's the thing, Mubuarek *sp* never wanted force against the people, but sent the military out to protect the masses, apparently. Shit hit the fan, i'm sure the US along with other EU countries urged him to GTFO and he basically did in a short amount of time.

Sometimes shit needs to hit the fan in order for real change to take place.

This is not true. He ordered the military to slay the protesters and the military said "we are not killing our own people."

But the critical moment came on the evening of 30 January when, it is now clear, Mubarak ordered the Egyptian Third Army to crush the demonstrators in Tahrir Square with their tanks after flying F-16 fighter bombers at low level over the protesters. Fathers who had spent their lives serving the Egyptian army told their sons to disobey, that they must never kill their own people.
