I don't know where I got it from (probably here a few years ago), but the word "Mexican" was (and is) used as an amusing substitute for a curse.

So, by the way you explained the use of the word Mexican
as a substitute  for a curse,  your OP  could have read:

"If we have  then it's too old to  have registered on my radar, so it can go British itself."

Just so long as the word  British  counts as  an  amusing
