I could do the math but diesel prices would have to be somewhere in the area of 20-30% higher than gasoline for it to not be cheaper to drive a diesel. Diesel has more energy per gallon than gasoline. Look at the fuel economy comparisons between different cars. You get more miles per gallon.
Yeah Diesel fuel burns much slower than gasoline but has almost the same amount of compression (which = power).

You have a confusing way of explaining things. Diesel fuel has a higher energy density.
Wikipedia does a good job.

Diesel-powered cars generally have a better fuel economy than equivalent gasoline engines and produce only about 69% as much greenhouse gas pollution. This greater fuel economy is due to the higher energy per-liter content of diesel fuel and also to the intrinsic efficiency of the diesel engine. While diesel's 15% higher density results in 15% higher greenhouse gas emissions per liter compared to gasoline,[3] the 20–40% better fuel economy achieved by modern diesel-engined automobiles offsets the higher-per-liter emissions of greenhouse gases, resulting in significantly lower carbon dioxide emissions per kilometer.
I didn't even know it was better overall for the environment. Cool. Another bonus. Wow, they can make diesel cars go fast too.
