What makes me wonder is how some of these older people who can barely walk without assistance and have obvious muscular or neurological damage (as evidenced by perpetual shaking) are capable of operating what amounts to a motorized leathal weapon.

Oh, my dad's not that bad. But...
My uncle, he has parkensins (sp) and he can barely talk..walk. He had a lot of money (millions) but soon after being diagnosed lost (gave) it all...to some girl he was sleeping with.
He was still driving in Phoenix Az until about 5 or 6 mos ago when he caused 3 accidents in one week. It's actually really sad.
Your fucking stupid

Agreed. How do you go about telling someone that they don't have the right to drive anymore after decades? The car is the true American symbol of freedom, moreso than the flag or the Statue of Liberty or DisneyLand or what have you.
One of my customers had his liscense taken away after a couple of accidents (he's in his late 70's and had a stroke several years ago), and you could tell it just crushed him. For older guys, taking away their right to drive is the effective equivalent of neutering them (an action generally already performed in the literal sense by age). It is a really sad situation to be in, but necessary sometimes.
Shit...that was depressing.

It seems like drivers are getting worse every day here. The elderly are bad, but there are some normal aged people who can't drive for shit either.

They need to just make the elderly re-take their driving test when they hit the retirement age... simple as that. I mean my own relatives for the most part, they are excellent drivers, but when I"m on my way to work or out in town or anything they're usually trying to be too safe, in-turn putting people in danger.

I hate to say it but drivers tests dont prove shit. Everybody can practice for a test and pass. The problem is that people are breaking the law, and doing it knowingly. Cops need to punish more often and make fines real stiff if they want to get the point across. My friend got pulled over doing 95 in a 65 zone and had to pay a 350$ ticket. THATS IT. IF he got his license taken away, maybe he would learn his lesson. I hate to be the bad guy, but i see so much stupid shit happen without consequences. Assholes need to be punished for thier actions.

Going too slow should cost twice as much as a speeding ticket, IMO, and it should be enforced like hell.
