For the most part, I don't like female rock vocalists. 90% of the time a woman's soft voice doesn't mix well with heavy guitar riffs and double bass drums. Usually, when you stick a chick behind a microphone at the front of a rock band, you end up with Kittie. And as we all know, Kittie sucks metric tons of balls.
But, there are exceptions to this rule. Two of them being Christina Scabbia of the Italian industrial rock band Lacuna Coil and Angela Gossow of the Swedish death metal group Arch Enemy.
First off, if you haven't heard of either band, go to either www.centurymedia.com, www.lacunacoil.it, or www.archenemy.com and listen to them right this second. Suggested songs to listen to from both bands are:
Lacuna Coil - "Swamped", "Heaven's A Lie" and "Tightrope"
Arch Enemy - "Ravenous", "Enemy Within" and "Heart of Darkness"
If you're just a simple music lover, you can't go wrong with Lacuna Coil. Everyone I know that I have let listen to those songs has loved them regardless of their musical tastes. If you're looking for a kickass metal band to boot, listen to Arch Enemy.
Now, after listening to both groups, the commentary I would make on their voices should be fairly obvious at this point. So I won't bore you with my praise towards their incredible vocal abilities. The one thing you should keep in mind when listening to Arch Enemy at the very least is that, yes, that is a woman. Enjoy!
