First of all, Mischief Makers was made by Treasure, and therefore kicked major ass. I can't believe you guys didn't like that game. Metroid looks sick as a first person shooter. But the best Metriod ever would be on the import Saturn with the 4 meg cart. Just imagine Castlevania Symphony of the Night, then insert Samus Aran, that would kick so much ass!

Mischief Makers was awful! How can you detest so much of what Nintendo makes, yet you enjoyed that fuming pile!?!

Symphony of the Night was awesome, but the days of side scrollers are at an end. Side scrollers used to be inventive and interesting because they had to be. The only other worthwhile option game developers had was to use the overhead view. When your choices are that limited, you have to make the best out of what you have. Nowadays, side scrollers aren't necessary, so developers don't push the game as far as it can go. That's why Mischief Makers sucked.

im surprised if anything i really expected and hoped metroid would stay true to its roots like symphony of the night, it think they can still pull off a good side scroller, there are just so many fps out there im sick of it there is nothing new about them, side scroller while risking suckiness at least had alot to do as far a walking on walls like draculas curse, i just dont think there is much to be done with fps anymore, ill be very impressed if it is good, my problem with fps is i want more peripheral vision and i dont know how that translates into video language but..
i wouldnt even mind a 3rd person like phantasy star online which in my opinion was a masterpiece!
i just hope they make it dark and cold and lonely feeling like the first metroid and even super metroid rocked, they could make a good side scroller again i just think it would be alot more work than they expect. i feel like no matter what guns you put in the game its just gonna be either turok cause you can jump or perfect dark cause you cant, both of these games i like but i would expect something that carries the name metroid to seriously blow my dick off!
godspeed you black emperor!

I'm completely psyched about it. And it's not an FPS. Just because it's from a 1st person point of view doesn't automatically make it nothing but shooting. It's an FPA. First person adventure. There's significantly more to it than just shooting aliens.

that does make me feel better i have to admit but i dont know how much adventuring you can do, i mean there now hard jumps or screw attacks or double jumps (which are awesome in any game!) no cliff hanging and i dont like not seeing whats under me, i want to drop bombs and stuff.
but if you guys say this is boss ill take your word for it, what else is supposed to be so good about it?
godspeed you black emperor!

It just looks incredible. The screens I have seen, and previews I have read make it feel like playing through a strange mix of Aliens and Indiana Jones.

When Samus goes into Ball Form, the camera goes into third person mode. I think it does the same thing for her Super Dash and Grappling Beam. Also, the interface of the game is made to feel like you're actually in her Power Suit. So, you can scan a certain enemy and bring up statistical information and biological data on any creature in the game. I was viewing a teaser video for it a few weeks ago, and watched a scene where Samus obliterates a corridor full of nasty spider-like aliens, and has to wipe the blood and guts off of her visor.

One of the other really cool additions to the game is Samus' Infra-Red Scanner. I've seen a few screens, and it looks just like Predator.

On top of all of this, the bosses are massive, the enemies come in swarms, and it just has a much more innovative and professsional presentation than really any other first person game out there.

when your in ball mode, your in a 3rd person perspective... expect around 50% of the game to be played in 3rd and 50% to be played in 1st

i think... well i loved metroid. i always will. but when i see a big beutiful screen with wonderful details and a big stupid gun in the bottom right corner pointing straight forward i gotta wonder is this metroid or is this any one of the other billion games that looks exactly like it?
ok i know iver heard "well there will be different things in this game than in the other games and there will be better guns and stuff from the metroid series" all i think of is yea... every fps out there has something different from the other ones thats why it can be sold with a different title.
did i like golden eye yes and i bought it
did i like perfect dark, yes and it was a sequel to golden eye despite the name and i still bought it and loved it.
when i see metroid on a game box will i buy it? yes and i will expect something like metroid not one of these other games! the name metroid carries with it a feeling and a backround and i know i defended the new starfox sayin that it just adds to the story and it a new twist but they can crank out a starfox game in a year, and frankly when it comes to metroid we've been waiting far longer and to have the first metroid in many years be this ruined embarassment to the name is just pathetic, im sure it will be fun and a good game but i want another metroid not another doom with jumping and rolling in a ball.
i can tell you this much, if rollijng in a ball gets you into AT LEAST 3rd person view i will spend as much game time curled up as i possible can. in fact i want to be the first to beat the game completely in the tucked position! sure side scrollers are old but look how good symphony of the night was! increadible, they can make another great metroid side scroller but the fact it noone wants to put in the time to make it unique and good. there is so much more you can do in a side scroller, instead we have to play perfect dark with new weapons and features.
fine im glad this great new game is coming out but dont call it metroid!
save it for a metroid game, anyway i will still be excited and get the new Metroid(Perfect dark 2) but i will not see it as metroid,
its 6 am and im at work again i hope i havent repeated myself or not made sense

part 2-from another forum
are you even gonna be able to jump? that was such a big part of the metroid series! i dont see how they can effectively do that in this first person gay-vision mode! unless they do it like turok which was the hardes most confusing jumping in the world and sucked! everything else is so limited too like remember getting into those weird crevaces and swinging with the grapple beam, i will miss that and i think they may have the grapple beam here too but it wont be the same,
what im saying is its the feel that made metroid so good and the new one may be good but part of the feel of the original came from what you saw in the side view!
remember in super metroid, getting the charge up run and then pushing down and jumping really high! that was cool, you wont do that in fist person view and if you do it will be stupid cause you dont actually see yourself running, youll just get queezy. all that great stuff that she could do in the side scroller is now either impossible or its gonna be mediocre. and if it switches thats gonna be worse cause youre gonna be switching back and forth constantly God forbid there is a tough jump that takes several tries, youll puke from the switching before you ever make it.
godspeed you black emperor!

My God, Aeon. Like I said before, if you really need a side scroller Metroid game that badly, buy Metroid Fusion.

Well, not every game is suited for it. I would imagine that the main reason there isn't any multiplayer for it is because of how odd the view is. It would probably be excesssively hard to see detail with that "visor view" on a split screen.

No, the reason why they stopped making side scrollers is because average gamers want what looks purty, and 3D to them, looks better than 2D. Nothing more, and nothing less. Everything else you said was bullshit. Metriod would be awesome as a side scroller. The new one for Gamecube is going to rock, it's still going to be fucking sick, but I'm just as happy if not more for Metriod Fusion for Gameboy Advance.

"Bullshit"? Did you even read my post? The only reason anyone ever made side-scrollers is because there were no other options. The overhead view was the only other viable choice. That's why so many were so good. Because they had to work with what they had and push the limits of the genre.

The fact is, if this kind of technology had existed when Metroid was first created, I can guarantee you that the original would have been from a first person perspective. It is what suits the mood of the game the absolute most.
