Box Office Slump
Reply
Posted 2005-06-26, 06:44 PM
Well, its officially the 18th week we've been in a box office slump, making it the worst of all time. Why do you think this is?

Personally, I think its because it costs a months paycheck to buy a ticket to get into a movie these days. Im really not willing to sheel out $10 to go see a movie with sub-par picture quality, and to listen some baby crying through the whole thing.

I think that many people are just too busy and not interested in, like you said, shelling out so much cash just to see one movie. Could be that some of the movies out right now are shitty though.

Basically, the box office numbers at the theatres are very low and they have been for a long time. Im asking why people think this is.

I don't know what it is. I go see plenty of movies, though there havn't been many that were terribly good. Constantine was good, Batman Begins was pretty good, and Serenity will be good. Crappy year for movies, I guess.

I've seen 1 or 2 movies this year. The only one I can really remember was Mr. an Mrs. Smith.

There just doesn't seem to be too many good movies out now. I usually tend not to watch a movie unless it's sci fi based though, so Iunno.

We still had the highest grossing movie of all time for an opening weekend in Star Wars didn't we? It's just hard to think of plots that haven't been done yet, or aren't already based on books. That, and the whole money thing.. It isn't just $15 to go on a date to the movies anymore.. It's more like $35 after tickets, popcorn, candy, and drinks. Pretty KJ if you ask me.

I think War of the Worlds will be a good one. That and Fantastic Four.

I think a large part of it is the cost of going to the movies. A date costs $20 in tickets, and then what? $8 for popcorn and $5 for a drink? No wonder people don't go to the movies as much as they used to.

No offense to anyone, but War of the Worlds has been Americanised. It won't be as good as it should be. The only proper War of the Worlds film will be one set in England, as H.G. Wells wrote it.

Fantastic Four should be fun...I didn't know about it until a few days ago...
I want to see Batman Begins.

What about the new Willy Wonka?? Anyone know when that is coming out?? That should be pretty good.

You crazy? Spielberg alone makes this movie better than any English set movie. Who cares about location, the plot is the point of the movie.

It doesn't even have the War of the Worlds soundtrack...all it is is an Americanised film that hopes to make lots of money. If any film-maker had any sense they'd make it true to the book.

Would you have gone and seen the LoTR trilogy if Spielberg had done it and completely Americanised it?? I, for one, wouldn't have.

Difference is, you really can't Americanize LotR because it wasn't based in any civilization or world we know or ever knew to exist on Earth. BIG difference if you ask me.
