The problem is, when you cast a spell, you cast it on the person, and no matter where the person goes, they get hit. Also, a spell is not allowed to be casted on just anything, it requires a target for a successful casting to occur, which means Mantis can't just manipulate Seymour to cast the spell on just anything.
Oh, and when the Aeon is out, Seymour is not in the fight, at least that is the way it worked in FFX. They take turns in the fight.
And I don't think Mantis can manipulate minds, he can just read them, and he also has telekenetic abilities.
