Just thought of something, maybe you should implament a small hack so when a members makes a thread/post. They have a checkbox to post as an Anonymous user. This way he/she won't feel they will be judged or used agaist in other threads so to speak.
People should just register, it's seriously not hard at all. If you let guests post you would have to constantly watch the threads, not that your not doing it now or whatever, but then people like me could log out and call everybody a nigger and you'd have no way of tracing it?

I like the anonymous posting better than guest posting because guests have no obligation to be appropriate as they cannot be banned. Anonymous members are still tied to the forum.
It's an idea. I don't know whether or not I like it, but it might work. I say give it a shot. Of course, my opinion shouldn't matter too much, because I'll be staying out of there except to give Grav a hard time.
It's certainly possible, but there becomes an issue of annonymity vs. moderatability. Should moderators be able to see who's really posting or should they not be able to tell untill they look at the banned list and see who they last banned?
In any case, with vB3.5 beta comming next month, I'm not interested in writing any new vB3.0 hacks; seems like a waste, you know?
And it turns out that my decision was justified, and after it came out, I went right back to hacking. vB3.5 will be an architectural change. Any hack written for vB3.0 will need significant re-work to work with vB3.5. Unlike the vB3.0 thing where they kept saying it was coming really soon, they have already stated that the vB3.5 beta will come in June of this year.

Maybe make it like the "Talk To The Staff" Forum, where only 4+ Stars can see what your name is if you choose to remain anonymous. That way you can remain anon even from the normal mods, but if you do something that needs to be punished, you still can be.

I think that if this idea is implemented, then moderators should have enough trust from the administration to not leak who posted what if they choose to be annonymous, and be trusted not to ridicule the person either. Moderators should definitely be able to see who's posting.
While I agree in concept, in use I don't really see the need for moderators to see who posted what if it's anonymous.
Firstly, I don't see the need for the anonymity in the first place. It's an online forum. How many of us really know anyone else on here?
Secondly, if a user posts something objectionable in anon-mode and a mod sees it, he can simply trash it then alert an admin. The admin can still read the post in the trash can, and he can take whatever action is appropriate.
