That's a very good idea, but I think it would appeal more to the youth. I'm thinking ages four to maybe oldest is fifteen, it's just not very attractive. Appealing to the eye maybe but it seems like an arcade sorta game, now if you want to attract an older and more intuitive crowd I suggest you focus more on performance than appearance.
What sony and xbox and mostly all other gameing industries are playing around with is the idea of a computer/gaming system. Maybe you should go one step ahead of them with a compact computer of some sorts. I'm going to refrence the new psp by sony, it's very good has somewhat okay internet capabilities but it's inadequete in the way that the link is horrible and you need to add things to it to get it going at the normal speed a laptop would.
Another idea would be to make something both fun and pretty easy for even adults to use, like maybe it has something like the izune where it scans the CD you put in saving it's contents on a hard drive for maybe a limited amount of days or something so you don't carry the CD around with you instead it's all there on this "animal" like console. I'm just playing around with ideas that already exist, but as I stated earlier if you really want this thing to sell to all ages you have to look more at performance than anything else.
One more note, maybe you could make it compatible with most other systems, that would deffinately get it to sell a lot easier if your going to persue this idea.
