After having relatively no issues at all, my PS3 that I recently purchase has stopped playing blu-ray movies. I don't know what went wrong, and it's only been acting up the last week or two. I don't think any update may have interfered with it, and i'm not sure if any mechanical issues are present. The PS3 still plays DVD's, it still plays regular games (DVD format), but it stalls out while loading the blu-rays.
At first I thought there may have been some behind-the-scenes licensing issues going on (at first ethernet was not hooked up) but i've wired it up and still no avail. I'm pretty stumped at this point. If anyone has any experience with this, help me out. I can provide any more information if needed. It's the 60gb model, and I purchased it used from GameStop back like late August.

My old PS2 did the same thing. After awhile it wouldn't play the blue-backed discs anymore, I think it's just a problem with sony's shitty lenses IIRC.
See if you can contact them and get a fix/swap. Worst case scenario they say no, then you can go ahead and void your warranty tinkering.

Yeah, I'm going to try and contact them today or Friday and see what they can do. My PS2 did the same Disc Read Error bullshit as well, I ended up buying a slimline.
