My HD shot itself in the face

And I lost everything I procured over the past 10-12 years that I brought over from hard drive to hard drive. Fuckin suckssss dude. Like, everything from my bookmarks to my music to my software to personal photos/conversations just everything. Anyway, now I gotta re-build but am not sure where to start..

My dumbass fault for not backing it all up I suppose, I just didn't have a 500 gig or terabyte hd to transfer it all to.

Oh well, I'll stop whining now but take it from me - BACK YO SHIT UP

Pretty much this. Also a good reason to use cloud storage for things you don't want to lose.

If there was a mechanical failure not in the disks (platters) themselves, you could try moving them to another hard drive frame. Magnetic head ("read/write arm") failures are supposedly pretty common.

And that is why I back up to an HDD everything I actually care about. Plus, I also have a lot of my stuff on an SDD. I would actually really recommend getting one for your OS and some games you run a lot. I can boot up super fast and everything runs super smooth.
