Back-up (X-box hacked)

This come from http://www.headliner.nl

According some anonymous sources we got through the news submit, it is possible to copy the games from Microsoft Xbox.

There was already floating an WMV (windows media video) file of 6mb (temporary offline) in which you can see someone taking out a just burned dvd-rw out of his computer and play it on his xbox. The date from this video if of April 18th. The image seems very convincing and nothing indicates that it is a modified video but it was doubtfull it was true since no other sources could confirm it worked because of the harddisc locks and region codes built in the xbox by Microsoft.

Though now as of 4th of April there are floating several X-box releases in the illegal "warez" scene. A piece of one of the hacked games for the X-box Shrek:

quote:
We tested this game on a developer XBOX, and it works. Since there is
no mod chip yet, we have no idea if this release will work on retail
XBOXes when/if a mod comes out. However, now that there is a release,
a modchip developer will be inclined to get our releases to work, so
we think a future mod will work with this release.
If a game is small enough to be burned to a CD, you can burn it to
either a CD or DVD, at your option, using the same ISO file.
The Xbox does not use media checks like the PS2.
When burning to a CD, if your CD burning program has an option,
choose "MODE1/2048", exactly as if you were burning a PC CD-ROM.
We recommend PrimoDVD for burning Xbox for both CD and DVD, but
all CD writing software besides Clone CD should work fine.
From our experience, the retail Xbox can only read DVD-RW's
and CD-RW's, so if you want to be sure that these will work
with a future mod, we recommend burning them to Rewritable
discs. We have heard reports of the retail Xbox reading some
types of DVD-R discs, but we have been unable to verify this.

The group who released it all goes by the name of ProjectX and have hacked these games already:

The releases differ in size from around 400mb upto 1500mb and are all in USA/NTSC format. According ProjectX it should work on every development xbox (which cost around the 20.000 - 30.000 dollar) but they think it should work on a normal xbox too but they didn't have a chance to test it yet. Because of the regional code it should only work on the retail x-box from the USA.

As soon as the wellknown "modchips" will be ready (they are not out there YET) the games should be playable on all region xbox machines. Early tests on european xbox show an "illegal media" error message. The wait is for some american xbox owners to test it and then we will know if it is true.

The next few days there will be updated news about the hacked xbox here on headliner.

Furthermore we would like to say that we only got this information from other sources and we have NOTHING to do with Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo and we do NOT own any of these consoles and we have NO IDEA where one can get these hacked versions. We are only a news source and will only spread news. Thank you.
