The only way I could see a hacker ever getting around an authenticator would be for them to directly hack Blizzard's servers, figure out the serial number of your authenticator from their servers/database, and figure out the algorithm for your specific authenticator from their servers/database. And if someone had the capability to even hack Blizzard's servers to that level, I would imagine authenticators are the least of their worries.

So has Blizzard helped you out at all? I would argue that after paying hundreds of dollars endorsing their product they owe it to you to absolutely give your property back which was stolen while under their supervision. Spin it on them if they try dicking around with you.

Except it isn't his property (as stated in the EULA, any and all characters, items, etc, are property of Blizzard) and Blizzard had nothing to do with it being stolen, nor could they have prevented it.

I'm actually going to change my previous suggestion. I don't think they should help anyone who gets their account stolen, unless they purchase an authenticator and link it to the account that was stolen. I think that's completely fair, and more than Blizzard is even obligated to do.

This is true. What I was mentioning was just in lieu to persuade Blizzard to restore his account. I agree, Authenticators should be mandatory. And I agree that they are not required to restore anything, or to even help out. However, what if people are getting hacked through a glitch/bug in the game, in the armory?

Maybe they should consider giving out free authenticators to all players, that'd be a great incentive on top of the $15/mo all 10 million subscribers pay.

Ok. So after all those hours on hold I got through to a guy. He was super helpful and amiable. He said that he would put in a ticket to have the 72hour ban removed from the account, but that the bad news was the wait time for those tickets is well over 72hours. Still it's good to see that I had it refuted. Secondly, he put in a ticket to have everything restored. Said it could be up to 2 weeks. Probably more like 10 days give or take.

Now, as far as the hacking. Yes I will agree most people do STUPID things. Like go to websites that people on WoW are promoting. That's why I was BLOWN AWAY when I had fallen vitctim. I'm sure most WoW player's know the name Curse Client. It's for add-ons. Very user friendly, fast, a very professional system/website. Here's the catch. They don't upgrade their program through their own servers. They use a "torrent" type of system where you are downloading it from other users. Therefore if you know this, you can literally have people download whatever you want unknowingly. He talked a little more about it but I don't remember the specifics. The program generally only initiates when you have Curse running and/or WoW. Therefore hiding it from virus/malware scans.

Son of a bitch.

lol, you didn't know to not use the curse client? Always manually install add-ons, fool. Lesson learned!

Eh, never heard that before or read it anywhere and I've read a few WoW forums.. Makes sense though. Lesson learned indeed.

You can't just tamper with a torrent stream. If you fail to send the original data, it will fail the hash check and get discarded. As for Curse, they are a company out to make legitimate money and aren't going to keylog away their customers. Thier current buisness model depends on people using the curse client and paying for premium membership; they need people to trust the curse client.

Exactly. And if you get a keylogger using a torrent then you are the retard, and should self /facepalm yourself until you can't do it anymore.
