i think... well i loved metroid. i always will. but when i see a big beutiful screen with wonderful details and a big stupid gun in the bottom right corner pointing straight forward i gotta wonder is this metroid or is this any one of the other billion games that looks exactly like it?
ok i know iver heard "well there will be different things in this game than in the other games and there will be better guns and stuff from the metroid series" all i think of is yea... every fps out there has something different from the other ones thats why it can be sold with a different title.
did i like golden eye yes and i bought it
did i like perfect dark, yes and it was a sequel to golden eye despite the name and i still bought it and loved it.
when i see metroid on a game box will i buy it? yes and i will expect something like metroid not one of these other games! the name metroid carries with it a feeling and a backround and i know i defended the new starfox sayin that it just adds to the story and it a new twist but they can crank out a starfox game in a year, and frankly when it comes to metroid we've been waiting far longer and to have the first metroid in many years be this ruined embarassment to the name is just pathetic, im sure it will be fun and a good game but i want another metroid not another doom with jumping and rolling in a ball.
i can tell you this much, if rollijng in a ball gets you into AT LEAST 3rd person view i will spend as much game time curled up as i possible can. in fact i want to be the first to beat the game completely in the tucked position! sure side scrollers are old but look how good symphony of the night was! increadible, they can make another great metroid side scroller but the fact it noone wants to put in the time to make it unique and good. there is so much more you can do in a side scroller, instead we have to play perfect dark with new weapons and features.
fine im glad this great new game is coming out but dont call it metroid!
save it for a metroid game, anyway i will still be excited and get the new Metroid(Perfect dark 2) but i will not see it as metroid,
its 6 am and im at work again i hope i havent repeated myself or not made sense

part 2-from another forum
are you even gonna be able to jump? that was such a big part of the metroid series! i dont see how they can effectively do that in this first person gay-vision mode! unless they do it like turok which was the hardes most confusing jumping in the world and sucked! everything else is so limited too like remember getting into those weird crevaces and swinging with the grapple beam, i will miss that and i think they may have the grapple beam here too but it wont be the same,
what im saying is its the feel that made metroid so good and the new one may be good but part of the feel of the original came from what you saw in the side view!
remember in super metroid, getting the charge up run and then pushing down and jumping really high! that was cool, you wont do that in fist person view and if you do it will be stupid cause you dont actually see yourself running, youll just get queezy. all that great stuff that she could do in the side scroller is now either impossible or its gonna be mediocre. and if it switches thats gonna be worse cause youre gonna be switching back and forth constantly God forbid there is a tough jump that takes several tries, youll puke from the switching before you ever make it.

i just played the new castlevania for gameboy advance and it kicked ass!
this is obvious testimony that they can still may a great game thats a side scroller and dont HAVE TO upgrade everything into this stupid fps, its like the boy bands! once one came up and was successful thats all you saw, popping up everywhere.
whoever decided to ruin metroid and make it an fps should be shot in the face.
godspeed you black emperor!

Yes bullshit! I can not, and will not agree with this. First of all, that is not a fact, it is your opinion. So don't ever use "fact" in your bullshit opinions. The reason they are making the game 3D is the same reason why they are cell-shading Zelda, because Nintendo is taking a new direction. If anything, Nintendo is making Metriod 3D because, like I said before, average gamers want what looks pretty. Of course Nintendo won't admit to this, but many developing companies have. They'd make 2D games all day if they could, but that's not going to sell to morons that want cut-scenes, pretty graphics, and lots of blood. They make what is going to sell, so they can put food on the table.

Okay, calm down there, spanky. You're getting a little too worked up over this. I didn't realize a single word could enrage someone so easily.

You are more wrong about this topic than you can possibly imagine. If Nintendo were to make Metroid Prime a side scroller (alongside Metroid Fusion which is also a side scroller) that would be taking the easiest, simplest, most predictable route possible. Nintendo is changing the perspective of the game because they have always been about taking chances. As opposed to Sony, who cranks out the same damn thing time and time again. Sony's formula = guaranteed profit.

Nintendo has never been about predictability. If they wanted to release a guaranteed hit, they would have made it a side scroller. "Why," you ask? Because they know that the only people who are even interested in a Metroid game are old school gamers because there hasn't been a new Metroid game in over 8 years. The success of Nintendo's products is in the legacy of the games. People say "a new Mario game? Awesome!" People get excited because another of their favorite games is being made. Since there haven't been any Metroid games in so long, they can't guarantee the success of the game on just the name anymore. The only way they could have guaranteed themselves a high-selling game would be to make it a side-scroller. But even then, Nintendo would have been settling for a game that would only sell to a moderate degree. If they wanted to make a mega-hit, they would have to take a chance.

This game could very well flop because of what a massive risk it is. Old-school fanboys will look at this and say "1st person??? GAY!" And they won't even give it a chance. Many new school gamers might look at it and say "okay, it's another FPS. So what?"

Your assumption that Nintendo is making this game for idiot kids who want "pretty cinematics and shit blowing up" is ludicrous. It proves that you obviously don't pay much attention to the way Nintendo creates games and the philosophy behind their strategies.

My name isn't Spanky, but is it okay if I call you Dick? No? Alright Dick it's like this. You couldn't be more wrong! Like I said before Nintendo is making this game in 3D because it is cashing in on Halo. It takes a great game like Halo, and inserts Samus Aran. Bingo, people will buy. And old school gamers aren't going to go down the game. They'll most likely buy the game regardless. Just as all the old school gamers bought the HORRID Nintendo 64 version of Castlevania, which was God-awlful I might add. If Metriod were a side scroller, it would sell, but it wouldn't sell a million copies.
See Dick you really don't understand. My assumption that people buy games because of pretty graphics, cinematics, and blowing shit up is not ludicrous. It's exactly right. Why do you think Mortal Kombat was accepted so well? Because it had great gameplay? Because each character had a total of two moves? No because it had fatalities.

Symphony of the Night was awesome, but the days of side scrollers are at an end. Side scrollers used to be inventive and interesting because they had to be. The only other worthwhile option game developers had was to use the overhead view. When your choices are that limited, you have to make the best out of what you have. Nowadays, side scrollers aren't necessary, so developers don't push the game as far as it can go. That's why Mischief Makers sucked.
Would anyone care to mention Klonoa or Klonoa 2, or Tomba here? Someone care to bring up Silouette Mirage? Strider 2? These games weren't necessary, but they were made, and they were fun as hell. I think all games should have to be inventive and interesting, if a game isn't interesting whats going to keep you playing? Do all game developers have to make the best of what they have as well? If side scrollers aren't necessary, then what games are...all genres are necissary save some of those sims that come out in Japan, but even those are necessary in the culture of Japan. Games do not need to be pushed as far as they can go to be decent...

I just want to know, do you actually read what other people post or do you just guess at what it says and respond hastily? I didn't say that people don't buy games because they have pretty graphics and cinematics. I said Nintendo doesn't make games solely for that purpose. Of course they are going to make pretty games. But, Nintendo's games do not revolve around the graphics, like Microsoft's products do. Nintendo puts ten times more effort into creating an entertaining and well-designed game than they do with the visual aspect.

And just because Nintendo is making a first person game does not mean it will be an instant success. Look at the last three or four James Bond games. Every one of them flopped. They were all FPS games. So, why didn't they succeed?

Creating an FPS is no longer a guaranteed path to success these days. Halo did exceedingly well because it was a very good game. But, there are so many bad ones out there, that it makes it hard for people to trust that a new one will be any good.

GameCube, why don't you ever post anything on the game. You always start threads saying "say stuff about this sweet game." Why don't you post something? That's a form of spamming, I can start lots of posts with different name titles saying just to post stuff about the game.
