There's way too much misinformation and scare-tactics for any progress to be made.

Do you think it would be a good or bad idea for Democrats to move forward with a bill they want and no Republican support or try and compromise, drag out this process and possibly get something passed that is watered-down and ineffective to solving our issues?[/bias]

Why does it even matter what the Republicans think? Democrats have huge majority control in the House, the Senate, and obviously the White House. So fuck 'em

The problem I see there (which is the same in all democratic systems) is that in four, or eight years time (or however long it takes before you see a Republican President again), the Republicans will come along and, if they've stuck to their guns over the years, will rip apart what was in place, claiming it ineffective and costly.

That could be true. We just need a new system in place and things need to just start gradually getting better. I think America in general is starting to see early signs of Obama's work as our economy has already been stabalized for a while and now stocks for the past month have been surging and leveling off and are holding another surge currently. My point for this is that Republicans are going to run out of things to criticize and eventaully people are going to stop buying into their bullshit. I think by the end of Obama's 8 years (yes, I think he will get reelected becase within 4 years the country's turnaround will be great) the Republican party will have died off more than people think and Independents may outrule them as the new number 2 party.

There is too large of an age-gap, and the McCain aged type will all probably be dead within the next decade.

The republican party is already in the process of tearing itself apart. Just wait until Palin runs in 2012, the republicans that are tired of being grouped with fundies and insanity will have basically disowned the party.

My fear is that the tactics of the Republicans is working. It just seems more and more people are getting involved, but it's the people who buy into this stupid shit such as "pulling the plug on grandma" and illegals getting covered by the health care.

And now Baucus wants to introduce a bill that seems to miss the entire point of what Obama wants to do. No public option, etc.
