I am going to teach my friend how to do basics of PHP(so he can help), but I plan to make my own phpForum. I have the idea already thought up and I don't think I will use mySQL.

Plain PHP, it will be hard without mySQL, but it's possible. I just wanted a hobby. I might use mySQL tho.

There are PHP Databases that don't use any SQL (Like Flat Database), but I am not sure how well it would work with a forum if at all.
