Maybe it was the trilogy by George R. R. Martin? A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, and A Storm of Swords. I just bought A Clash of Kings earlier today because this friggin' author rocks. I used to read a lot of fantasy books when I was younger and I just recently picked up this series. I reccommend it to everyone who likes fantasy at all. 10/10.
