My grandfather says he remember hearing from his grandparents and great grandparents about what it was like. So you can't get first-hand stories from a slave, but there are people who've actually heard exactly what it was like, and I think if you don't want to believe a history book, then perhaps you'd believe it from somebody who actually knows about it.
