I need to start Programming...

I have very limited experience in programming. I've only used the most basic languages. QBasic, Basic, a little VBasic, DOS Batch if that counts. I was just wondering if anyone could suggest good books or tutorials on C++, Pascal, and Hex editing. I'm gonna go to school to learn this, but not for a while, and I want a head start. Any suggestions? I DONT WANT A SIG!!!! Your REALLY gonna want to click this
