President Obama announces the end of the combat mission in Iraq and discusses the future of the U.S. commitment to helping build a stable Iraq in an address to the nation from the Oval Office. August 31, 2010.
Is the war finally over? Watch the video. Essentially we've ended 'combat' missions in Iraq and are in the final stage of getting the Iraqi government and military forces to take care of themselves. Honestly, it's about damn time. I feel the same should be done with Afghanistan. The longer we occupy other countries and medel around in their affairs, the more enemies we create. Subsequently, forces of Al Qaeda could intensify and build up, but at the same time their citizens are just as stupid as ours, and the war is perpetuated by falsehoods and lies. They view us as terrorists, and we view them as terrorists, etc.
I'm glad Obama noted that we need to turn the page, didn't point fingers or blame the past administration, but made for the push to move past that point in time, which is exactly what we need.
I actually am still optimistic that Obama's job running our country hasn't gone too terribly wrong, given the mess that he fell in to. What do you guys think?
