Post how to keep my laptop safe

Im going 2 india over the summer...dont ask me why. I wanted 2 take my laptop there 2 have something 2 do but the problem is that the voltage fluctuates over there so im scared of frying my laptop. Is there any way i could go there and keep my laptop safe...what would i have 2 buy and how much would it cost...lol

Surge protector, maybe. I know they protect against getting fried from a bolt of lightning, I would assume it's roughly the same concept.

A good UPS will condition out power problems, but the lead battery makes them unportable. Also, don't they have a different power voltage there?
