Wink WoW bans 'Glider' users.

We've gotten more tips on this than any other topic in recent memory: apparently many users of the popular WoW botting program Glider have been hit with the ban hammer, including some of our very own readers. You may recall Glider as the company with whom Blizzard is currently embroiled in a lawsuit (does the word "embroil" have any use other than lawsuits?). The Glider forums are abuzz with comments and complaints, to which I can only reply "QQ." Botting is clearly against the EULA, the spirit of the game, and the best interests of the other players. Yes, I would be sad if I got banned, but honestly, anyone who was botting had it coming.

There are various objections to be made to this stance. Most of the people who wrote in claim to have been botting in order to bypass the tedious leveling process. I agree that it can be boring to level 1–70 multiple times, even with the new, faster 20–60 process. However, that doesn't make it OK to cheat. Others claim that with fewer bots in the system, the supply of primals will be reduced and therefore the price will go up; I'm not much of a WoW economist, so I'll leave that to others. But to this blogger, banning botters can only be interpreted as a good thing: some cheaters got what they deserved. Whether you agree or disagree, please feel free to sound off in the comments. And if you are a botter yourself, and haven't gotten banned yet, I'd advise you to stop -- they're clearly getting serious about this.

Personally, I had two "real life" buddies of mine that I went to high school with etc that got the ban stick, pretty funny really as they are both repeat offenders. I'm iffy on this subject, really nobody should cheat, ever. I mean I have pirated music in the past along with other things, but this is a totally different thing. I'm happy the botters are gone, I do not care about the WoW economy, shit will fix itself, it's just a game. And having a level playing field is the best fucking thing in the world, I hate being behind as it is, and having Blizzard ban a bunch of cheaters is good. Even though my friends got their accounts banned with their top-of-the line gear accounts, and multiple accounts (with billing information being the same being banned) I still don't really feel sympathetic at all.

Oh well, I figured i'd post this up for all to read, apparently the number of banned is around 350,000 but I can't seem to find a confirmed number, it's up there though.

Yeah, Botters and cheaters should be banned, It isn't a bad thing at all. And 350,000 isn't an un-reasonable number considering the amount of people who play the game.

Yeah seriously. Our "raid leader" who naturally is a dick head and is always right tried to argue with me in vent last night about poor WoW's revenue is going to be affected and etc etc, if they don't want his money then so be it. I tried to explain to him that a loss of 350,000 a month isn't even that bad, they probably make that back with new account sales and subscriptions, along with WoTLK coming out pretty soon they aren't even worried about it. They'd lose more people if they let cheating go unchecked.

I'm glad to see this happen, honestly. I guess it's just how it works though, there will be more cheaters and more bans in the future so nothing will probably change from this. Hmph.

Hah. I love it when people think that blizzard massively banning accounts is going to hurt their revenue. Yeah right! If they ban 50,000 accounts, probably at least 25,000 of those people are going to turn right around and buy another key. Not only is blizzard not really losing very much as far as monthly income goes, they're selling more copies of the game.

As far as botting goes, I don't mind botters at all. I don't care if someone bots. I don't care if blizzard bans someone for botting. That's one conflict that I'm really quite neutral about.

However, I do have a problem with people who bot, get banned, and then complain about it, when they knew that getting banned was likely to happen and Blizzard has made it clear that it is against the rules. It's actually quite a childish argument to make.

Yeah, Their revenue is fine, they made 105 million a month when there was 7 million people playing. I think that it has moved up to 9-10 million. Their perfectly fine on money, no question about it..Rich bastards...

Good ponit, I do care about PVP botters though, as it directly affects our matches in Alterac Valley and such as they just run around mindlessly into walls and such.. I want the games to be a fair 40 vs 40 matcup, not with 5-10 gimps running around.

But i'm sure if most of these toons don't come back quite soon, a good deal of them would come back for WOTLK..
