Review: Tears of the Sun

My review of Tears of the Sun:

I was going in to this movie hearing mixed reviews. So generally, I had no idea what to think of it. At the start, the movement of the film kicks right in. The first twenty minutes are basically Bruce Willis and his men trying to rescue a nurse, a couple nuns, and a priest from being killed from the rebel force. Only the nurse comes along (who happens to have her shirt unbuttened half way throughout the entire show) but she only came along with the guarentee that the patients who are able to walk could come too. The rest....I dont want to spoil it for you.

The cinematography was quite good, creating a dark, wet, muggy sense which brings through the entire movie. The directing....It was good, but I have seen better. Nothing too powerful about it. The music was one o fthe best parts, Hans Zimmer, who has composed many great movies (eg. Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, The Lion King, etc.) brought along alot of feeling and dark, tribal emotion along with the movie. The acting, was mediocre, the nurse was sometimes annoying, but also tender. Bruce Willis didnt have too much room for acting, since he spent his time shooting things. The rest of the crew was also realistic and likeable.

Acting: 6/10
Writing: 6/10
Directing: 8/10
Cinematography: 9/10
Special Effects: 9/10

Overall: 7/10

Sometimes I was wondering when the movie would end...but when it did end, it left you with an interesting feeling.

I'll go check it out and post comments after I've seen it, just thought I'd tell you in case you didnt know, emocion = emotion, probably a typo, but just FYI.
Thanks for the review, Bruce Willis is cool but as you said he didnt have much room for acting, I'll still check it out.

Maybe tonight we'll fly so far away... We'll be lost before the dawn...

I thought it was great, a little brutal in places but it is hard to tone down ethnic cleansing african style. A lot of those atrocities (cutting the breasts off nursing mothers etc..) did, and still do take place in Burundi and other countries in Africa.
