Marines.

A friend of mine signed up for the Corps last weekend, he's going to be a fighter jet pilot. I am signing up soon after I take my GED (very soon), and I want to be a sharp shooter.
I was wondering, any Marines on this board(or you know someone who could answer following questions)? If so, how would you explain your experiences / way you're treated / how you feel wearing the uniform?
And if you had a chance to go back, would you change anything?

Maybe tonight we'll fly so far away... We'll be lost before the dawn...

I dont know. I dont really care about the rank. If I can get into the Marines... Well, as I told my friend:
"My life has been crap so far, I just want something I can look back on and be proud of, and something to help me get through the remaining time in my life."

Maybe tonight we'll fly so far away... We'll be lost before the dawn...

Ummm....NO!

My best advice would be for you to NOT get a GED, you will never get above Sgt. w/o some higher education or at least AN ACTUAL HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA. I was in the Army but I know a few marines and they are very gung ho and loyal even 20 years out.

Well Doofus, like I said I dont care about the rank. They treat you pretty well in SWAT regardless of rank I heard. Sniper all the way baby.
And I cannot go back to high school I'd have to start all over again and I dont have the resources to do that. After the marines I plan to go to college though.

Maybe tonight we'll fly so far away... We'll be lost before the dawn...

Good!

Snipers were always treated very well in my squad, takes a stone cold heart and steady hand to do that job.

Heh, i cant believe you would want that too. I Myself r planing to join the army after High school because i want to be a Sniper, but i have no idea what you have to do to be a sniper, i mean is it judged from what you do in the m16 range or can you sign up for that? or do you have to sign up for infantry then qualify as a sniper? hmmx0r

i used to want to join the air force to be a pilot but i began to think, there are thousand of people who sign up to be pilots in the air force but only a few are selected to eb pilots so i thought how could i have a chance.....thats why i decided to go with the army

oh and btw i think DFD was refering of how the conditions are , like if the fod is good , and all that kind of stuff not how other soldiers treat you

First thing you have to do to be a sniper is demonstrate some SUPERB markmanship skills in basic. Then you apply for Sniper school with the endorsement of your CO.

Yup. Just like in the movie Full Metal Jacket.
I've been shooting guns since I was very young, I believe I have what it takes to be a sniper. Maybe I'll see you around some time Knight. =P
By the way Knight you may want to start training now for boot camp.
The boot camp requirements are:
Run 2 miles in under 16 minutes,
Do 2 minutes of situps,
Do 2 minutes of pushups,
Do 20 pullups
(All each & every day)
And some others but that's the basics of it.

Maybe tonight we'll fly so far away... We'll be lost before the dawn...

I believe Delta Force is the elites of the elites, am I correct? You have to be the best at... Everything but also completely specialize on one task but be ready to start something completely new if your commander dies or whatever you gotta be ready to take that on.
I didnt get much sleep last night so I may not make a lot of sense.
Anyway, pullups are where there is a bar high over your head, you grab onto it with both hands and pull yourself up until your chin is higher than the bar. They're a lot harder than they seem. O_o
... You Grunt.
Join the Marines son, be a man. =P
Err, unless you're joining the Army Rangers... In which case you're a crazy fucker.

Maybe tonight we'll fly so far away... We'll be lost before the dawn...

Rangers are basically kevlar vests for tanks and other troops.
