Gladiator

Well, this is most definatly my favorate movie. Everything, and I mean everything is done well, and enhanced to its perfection. The battle scene's in it are intense, and the music suits the mood. (Why didn't Hans Zimmer win an Oscar for that?).

Opening scene- The hand on the wheat was genious. I believe it shows how Maximus truely perfers farming, and his family much more than battle, as he states later in the film; "Dirt is much easier to wash than blood."
The battle scene was intense, with the music pumping your adrenaline, and chaos everywhere.

Another part I really loved about this movie was the transition scene when he is being carted off to Zuccahbar, the Roman provence in North Africa.

The collosium battle, or The Carthage Battle was probably the most intense battle of the movie, and it most definatly picks up the movie from slowing down.

When Maximus was in the Tiger battle, you have to appreciate the sword/axe play in it. Russell Crowe said on the DVD for Gladiator that it was "Over 80 sword moves we needed to memorize, and at the same time we are getting our asses swiped at by tigers."

The end battle, between Commodus, and Maximus was brought out by pure anger, and I appreciate that Ridley Scott (Director) truely got what he wanted. He said in the commentary; "I wanted Maximus and Commodus to have a very intimate, and close death", and that is exactly what happened.

The ending was very emocional, and I have to admit, it had a hauntingly beautiful feeling. Sort of sad, but still happy. very hard to explain, but Lisa Gerrard (Singer) truely brought out the true emocions.

Jamesadin's Rating for Gladiator- 9.5/10

Black Hawk Down

Also directed by Ridley Scott, this movie is also very well made, and put together by Ridley and his team. Hans Zimmer also did the music for this movie, and recieved help by Lisa Gerrard yet again.

Many people have issues about how "gory and violent" this movie is. Well, my argument is they needed all of that blood and gore, or else it wouldn't be realistic. And when you are basing a movie off of an actual event, you need to have that extra edge to convince the audience, and they pulled it off with flying colours.

Everyone in this movie are great actors; Josh Hartnett, Eric Bana, William Fichter, Ewan McGreggor, Sam Shephard, and many other actors.
