Games that might just be impossible.

Hardest I've ever played was "Prinny:Can I really be the hero?" also nicknamed "Prinny:Can I really finish this game?"

Like most platformers, you can jump, attack, duck, and you have 3 hits before dying.
Unlike most games, you're probably one of the weakest beings in existence. 10 minutes of playing this game has forced me to cuss more then I have the entire year.
This game features lituarlly invincible enemies, and swarms of them flying at you all at once. You can't kill the thing keeping you from hiding, and you can't expect to not get hit 80% of the time by swarms of the enemies. Lucky for the player, you start out with 1000 lives, and a Red Scarf (the official symbol of main characterism).
But will this be enough to beat this game? Hell no.
Infact, you're rewarded with a special ending and a secret move if you lose all 1000 lives, and then you're given a second cycle. But it doesn't end there.
With a difficulty level, it's easy to determine which place to go to or not.. unfortunately, as soon as you clear that, the difficulty of all other areas rises.
Probably the easiest thing is the Boss battles, which you lose a good 10-20 lives on, while usually losing a good 25-50 lives on the stage itself.

and Don't forget, this is normal mode, on the normal path. They have a Hard mode, and an alternate story line which is almost twice as hard.
-----
Tell us about the hardest game you've ever played, if it be a Platformer or an RPG or a shooter.

the game that I found
most impossible to beat
was road rash for 64.
I always ended up throwing my
controller at the television

Mad Max for the Nintendo Entertainment System
was equally difficult to beat if not moreso.
But this is typical of any NES game. Sewer
Sharks for the Sega CD presented a challenge
of similar proportions

Sewer Shark? I can only imagine what a game named that would be like... *Imagines...*
For about a week I've been playing the old .hack//infection series. It's amazing how much easier it is after a good 5 or 6 years.... I'm already 3 bosses away from being done with all four. After that I'm moving to .hack//G.U.

They were hard, but far from impossible.

I would say the very first Castlevania could find its way onto this list of near-impossible games

I think I had a version of it for the Gameboy not-color...
It was pretty hard, and somewhat confusing... not confusing as in the game, but confusing as in "wtf is happening?" confusing.
