RMXP Getting Started

Ive just started to use RMXP (Rpg maker xp) and ime not sure how to use it.
But all i know is the basics. so could someone help me

Is there anything in particular you're looking for help with, such as variables or switches, or is there something you want to do, but can't seem to get to work?

well let me think, i need to know how to make the interior of houses and haw to get a good battle system and enimies.
I think thats about it. And ime not sure how to use switches

Interiors.

How familiar are you with creating new maps, and teleporting the player to the new maps?

That's basically it.

If you make the interior of the house as a new map, say 50 x 50, or even smaller, and put a teleport to it in the door of the exterior on the village map, then you'e got it all working.

If you go into the properties of each map, then you should be able to set a chipset to each map - that is, the different elements you can use. So if you don't like the default chipset, you can easily find an interior using a Google search and use that instead.

PART 1: Switches are fun and easy! I will make a quick little fun bit.

We will call Switch 1, Switchy & Switch 2, Switchm.

Let's say you want someone to stop saying the same thing every time you talk to them. You will need switches or a switch and variable, but I won't go over that.

Make an event; at the top make two pages, with the same person. Go to the second page. On the second page on the left you will notice a box to the left it says ("switch" [switch box] "is On"). Let's put switchy in the [switch box].

Let's Go back to the first page. On the first page make a random message for the character to say. Then click on the second "@>" and on the top-right you will see "Control Switches" Click on that and you will see "singles," it will already be on switchy. Then look down it says "On" & "Off", make sure the dot is on the "On."

Go to page two and write another random message. Now if you test play he will say two different things.

PART 2: Now to go onto switchm combined with switchy.

Make another event with another person. This person wants you to reply a message to the other event.

On Event 1 make a third page, and make switchy & switchm both have to be on. Make a forth page where only switchm has to be on, but the page will turn on the switch, switchy.

Now goto Event 2 (EV002 by default), and on the first page write a message and after goto "control switches" and turn "On" switchm. Make a second page, and require switchy & switchm to be on.

Write a message for both Events on the page 3 for EV001 and page 2 for EV002.

Make a third page for Event 2 and and make it so that if only Switchy is on that it has a message.

I confused myself while writing this, but then I made it and it made a lot more sence. Just stick with the first part, and when you really get used to the system, try to understand and possibly make the second part.

Ok I went to do a teleport into a house but i cant get it right so can you get me a tutorial for that to?

Also i need 1 for a chest if that isnt to much.

If you do a search for "treasure chest" then you'll get a lot of threads about treasure chests in RPGMaker, and probably the same answer each time as to how to make them work.

Teleporting... what's not working? Could you take a screenshot of the Event code and post it?

Before I do that when i make the teleport its only one way so i need to make 2 to make it work.

As in the teleport on the main map takes you into the house, but you can't get back out?

That's the norm - teleports are only one-way.

How are the treasure chests coming along?

Make an event for the key. You get a key and event01 turns on when you use the tresure chest you lose the key and event01 turns off.

Or if you want to store a lot of keys make events for each one, but that would be really annoying personally. Maybe just a few events that are tied to keys. Then reuse them over and over again.
