Battle! Sub-Zero vs. Ryu

Posted 2004-06-13, 03:26 AM
Arena: Lost Warehouse - A poorly lit warehouse, approximately half the size of a football field. Wooden crates stacked at random heights, narrow steel catwalks hanging from the 30 foot ceiling, no exits.

In the Red Corner, armed with an assortment of ice-based attacks, superhuman speed and durability, and a bevy of horrifying ways to mutilate his opponent's battered corpse! The arctic ninja, the freezing avenger, from Mortal Kombat: Sub-Zero!!!

And in the Blue Corner, equipped with his trademark Fireballs, his devastating Dragon Punch and a whole bunch of other ridiculously Japanese-sounding attacks! The master martial artist, the wandering warrior, from Street Fighter 2: Ryu!!!

The lights in the Lost Warehouse flicker hesitantly. Both of our combatants enter from opposite sides, and the bulbs begin to glow, straining as though a massive current has suddenly surged through them. The two opponents stare at each other from opposite ends of a long stretch between the piles of storgage crates stacked on either side. Both simultaneously raise their hands to chest level, Ryu drawing in a ball of pulsating light, and Sub-Zero forming an orb of pure, freezing wrath. Just as the two can no longer contain the energy they have harnessed, they fire upon each other and the battle begins...

Ryu is accustomed to fighting opponents of this calibur. Sub Zero's attacks consist of projectiles and projectiles that coat the floor. Ryu has no problem with this, as he is the master of cancelling out projectiles. Also, the icy-coated floor is no problem for his patented hurricane kick.

Ryu unleashes a barrage of hadokens. Sub Zero, unaccustomed to this amount of skill repetition, falters on an attempted jump-over. The hadoken finds its mark. This only angers the icy soldier. He jumps toward Ryu, confident in his abilities. *DRAGON UPPERCUT*

Ryu falls to the ground with an earth-shaking thud. As he finds his feet, he is hit by the most powerful and infamous attack of all time: the jumping fierce kick followed by the low fierce kick.

Sub Zero is knocked, once again, to the ground. He is weakened. He is hazy. He stands no chance. A hurricane kick finds its way directly to Sub Zero's jaw, and this fight is over.

Sub Zero expecting his opponent to be a tough one freezes him the first chance he gets. He pulls out his Kori blade and begins to slice up Ryu. Ryu is not used to blades being used in combat, so he is helpless.

Sub Zero wins.

Just a couple pics for each of our contenders. Sub-Zero's is a lot cooler, but that shouldn't sway your decision.

This is a good match ok so....

Subzero and ryu will both starts launching off their blasts, and sooner or later one of them is going to hit. If ryu hits subzero, subzero will only take some damage and get knocked off his feet. If ryu gets hit by one of subzero's blasts ryu will freeze unable to attack zero and unleash combo after combo till ryu recovers from the attacks. So, say if they both hit each other at the same time, ryu's blast will knock sub zero down and subzero will freeze ryu, it will only take like a few seconds for subzero to recover from the hit and starts hitting ryu. As for sub zero's ice copy thing well thats for if ryu does a dragon upper cut thing or does one of the kick thing (sorry didn't bother to remember the names from the games just.....know the buttons. lol) then ryu gets frozen again. Then sub zero will start hiting him again.

um SUB ZERO WINS lol

Although i'd LOVE Ryu to win, Subzero definitly has the upper-hand on this match.

Subzero could easially jump up on the catwalk, and freeze it. This way when Ryu trys to jump-kick, he would slip.

And besides, Subzero can freeze people

If there are no exits. How did they enter.? -_-

An automatic door that only has a sensor on the outside.

Anyhow, Ryu's Hadoken is more than a match for any projectile that Sub Zero has. Since they cancel out, and Ryu is more prone to using projectiles than Sub Zero (or any other fighting game character that I can think of), he won't have to worry about being frozen.

ryu sends fireballs and sets the stacked crates on fire, the burning crates fall on sub zero. Sub zero burns under the weight of the burning crates.

LOL Cooler Get it?

Any way, Subzero would not be an idiot and stand there and take a beating, I mean come on, him and Scorpion fight for fun.(not really) He wouldn't be like "oh hey he keeps throwing these fireballs at me so I will mess up and die instantly." He would take one ONE 1 ONE one fireball and learn his lesson. And how many times do you think Ryu and Shao Kahn have even seen each other. Sub Zero has fought him and opened many a can of whup ass and Ryu has fought some psycho milk man from tahiti. Sub Zero has this one in the bag!

You're saying that because Sub Zero fought MK opponents he's better... "Has Ryu ever fought ______ (insert random MK fighter) ? NO!?! Game Over!!"

That's absolutely not a factor in this fight, and there is a damned good reason for it. I could, logically, say the same for Sub Zero, right? Has Sub Zero ever fought... say... Blanka? No? Game over, Ryu pwns him.

The reason you can't pick a random character (bosses included) and say that his experience fighting the aforementioned character makes him stronger than the opponent is because we haven't established which game has stronger characters.

It may be true that any random MK fighter might get his everloving ass smashed by any random SF fighter. The opposite may be true. The fact of the matter is that what we are arguing is a specific example of this question. Therefore, it doesn't matter who Sub Zero has fought before. Ryu is a new type of combatant.

Go Ryu!

I'd just like to take a bit of time and mention the possibility of this arena not being very conducive to projectiles. There are a lot of obstacles and very little open space. I think the deciding factor is who is the better close-range combatant, and I'd have to give it to Ryu on this one.

Ryu is, by far, the superior melee fighter, and I'm not even accounting for anything after Street Fighter II.

What Mortal Kombat game is this pic from, because I want to play it.

And Sub Zero would easily whoop Ryu's ass, hands down with his eyes closed and both legs encased in cement which is then put in as a tile on the floor. Ryu has no chance against Sub-Zero. Ryu has only the experience of a thug, and Sub-Zero actually knows REAL martial arts, AND has a butt load of weapons; from an ice mace to a sword with a blade made of ice. Ryu has only his bare fists, which last time I checked, were no match for a blade or club.

OH MY GOSH, he trained with some stupid person for so many years, and strives to perfect his technique. He is a perfectionist. Do you know what happens to perfectionists? They kill themselves because they cannot stand their imperfect lives. So there. Ryu will realize this and kill himself. Or, I could be wrong and they just resolve their differences over tea and crumpets like actual, composed, and educated gentlemen rather than beat the snot out of each other for our amusement. But, then again that would be a perfect world with no violence, wouldn't it?

EDIT: Sub-Zero already won. Who still has games being made? I don't see any Street Fighter games since the Playstation.

P.S. They should make more Street Fighter games because both games kick ass, and honestly, I think the two would be evenly matched. I just wanted to see how many old skool gamerz would root for old skool fighters and not old skoolerz be made into new games. Once Mortal Kombat became 3D, it died. MKII was the best, but Akuma was the greates from SF whichever ones he was in for the playstation.

Super Street Fighter II: Turbo Revival and Street Fighter Alpha 3 were both made for the GBA. Also, X-Men vs. Street Fighter in 2002 for PC. And besides, I'm getting 22 arcade Street Fighter games.

Mortal Kombat has 5 arcade games. Congrats.

And your argument about Ryu killing himself is void. He's not going to kill himself; even if he did kill himself, it would not be during this tournament. His goal, as stated by the biography I posted, is to seek fighters worthy of his challenge. Besides, perfectionists get damn good at what they do. Someone who works so meticulously to kick ass is going to do it pretty well.
