Pilobolus.

Out of complete curiosity, has anyone ever heard of them? I got to watch them perform live tonight, and I must say...They were so...fucking...awesome.

Aah...I can't exactly describe what they do. Not easily, anyway. It's sort of a modern gravity-defying acrobatic dance...kinda?

Sigh...American youth today are culturally deprived. It's rather sad.

Anyway, I like watching Cirque de Soleil. I find that it's highly entertaining. Also, Pilobolus performs in the nude during certain performances. Of course, they couldn't last night since there were children in the audience. Though that didn't stop them from performing in thongs, briefs, and lacey undergarments.

Some of the routines they did were amazing. Femme Noire reminded me of the woman's struggle for perfection. How women force themselves to behave or look a certain way, even if on the inside they want to do otherwise. That was performed with a bit of a humorous twist, via the performers body not cooperating with what she was trying to do.

Another one, called Wedlock, depicted (in my eyes) types of relationships. They ranged from dominant relationships, to abusive, to relationships that move in perfect harmony, and even to the type of relationship where one partner is completely dependent on the other. It even depicted pregnancy.

I loved the performance. Even aside from enjoying the buff men wearing only thongs. Everything about it was enjoyable. Hell, even my dad enjoyed it.

It's a bunch of people dancing around wearing little/nothing and putting their boddies in funny possitions...

Culture?

Maybe.. more like a stupid gimmick(sp) to make some cash. Ofcourse, it does take skill and incrediably strength, but it's not artistic IMO at all.

Oh hoho! A stupid gimmick to make some cash, eh?

Pilobolus is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit corporation, supported in part by funds from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Eleanor Naylor Dana Charitable Trust, The Diebold Foundation, ect ect ect.

As well, they work with communities and teach this form of dance to children.

People have different taste, you saying that completely base on someone didn't like the dance??? I am not sure which is more sad.

Of course I'm not basing it one one person's opinions. But honestly, how many people now-a-days are actually willing to watch something a bit different from what they're used to? Instead, they tend base they're opinions of something on what little they actually know or have seen, instead of actually taking the time to look into it even a little. From what I've seen, they take one glance at something even a little different from their norm and immediately judge it, a lot of the times falsely (ie: "It looks gay/stupid/ect"). Honestly, what's so hard about doing something you wouldn't normally do for a change? And yes, I do know that this doesn't apply to everyone.

Admittedly, at first I was rather hesitant to go and see the performance. Once I did however, I found that I had actually enjoyed it.
