This thread is for discussing the power of Energy Vortex and the 8th circle summoning spells.
I feel that they're pretty much worthless. Energy Vortex seems to do less damage than a blade spirit and doesn't poison. The elemental summons are weak compared to the powerful creatures that high level players hunt for cash. Demons are a little better but still way too weak considering that you can't use a horse with them. Also increasing the power of these spells will decrease the necessity of having bard or tamer skills if you want to fight monsters efficiently on a mage.
Suggestions:
-Increase the power of energy vortex dramatically, and allow it to poison.
-Decrease EV movement speed so players can run from it and it doesn't become the ultimate PK weapon. (Though with this it would actually be useful in closed areas.)
-Make EVs selective in their targets, targetting only creatures with high intelligence (the kind that can dispel the EV), or players. This is to prevent mages from slaughtering mid level spawns with a few EVs.
Those 3 changes would pretty much set it back to the way it used to be a long time ago on OSI, when it was used as a way to fight high level creatures like balrons after running them out of mana.
-Increase the power of elemental summons to make them a little more useful.
-Make demons significantly more powerful because they take all 5 slots, meaning you can't ride a mount with one. For such a large risk/sacrifice (especially with the possibility of PKs taking advantage of your slow speed) there should be a large reward.
So that sums up one of my only real probs with the shard... keep up the good work Maj
