What significance does the number 26 have in anime?

I don't fucking get it.

Trigun, Bebop, Blue Gender, and probably more are 26 episodes. Naruto changed it's opening at 26th episode and ending at 52th (26 x 2) episode..

Does 26 have some meaning in Japanese culture?

Er, Naruto hasn't stopped. It's just that episode 52 was the most recently aired one, and 53 will be airing in Japan... well, today I guess. So we can probably get it late Thursday/Early Friday.

As for 26, I remember reading up that most Anime doesn't run as long as conventional cartoons and such, because the Japanese just don't consider that the proper way of doing things, with exceptions like DragonBall, DBZ, DBGT, Naruto, One Piece, and a few others, but the majority of Anime ends a lot earlier.

Which is really too bad, cause a lot of Anime is based on Manga counterparts, which take the story much much farther then the anime goes. Good examples of this are Love Hina and Fruits Basket, as well as Ai Yori Aoshi.

So yeah, I guess they just feel it should be ended sooner then later, for fear that it will start to suck, even though it's all great. =)

Because 13 episodes is the standard number for a "full season" of any given television program. If you'll notice, in both Trigun and Cowboy Bebop, the 13th episodes signify a sort of closure, or a heightening of circumstances in the plot of the series. Episode 13 of Trigun is titled "Vash The Stampede" and the entire episode is a big series of flashbacks followed by one huge character revelation at the end. Episode 13 of Cowboy bebop is the 2nd part of the "Jupiter Jazz" two parter. It signifies the end of the "first season" of the show, leaving the viewer with a ton of stuff to look forward to in the next season. That answer your question?

...they can't really do more Bebop, considering the end of the series. I would prefer no more Bebop over cramming 26 new episodes into the already existing ones.

right, bebop anime is just finished and they should leave it like that.

they could make more trigun though, but I think u then get the same effect as with dbz after frieza saga, if u know what I mean,
but, they still could make a movie for trigun like they did with bebop.

As was stated earlier, 13 episodes is a standard Japanese anime season.

I've also heard that there are certain restrictions an anime company must follow if their show goes over 26 episodes. Something about censorship, if I remember correctly.

Trigun pwnz both of them, but Wing is a bit > Seed.

Nothing is as horrible as SD Gundam though. That gives me nightmares.
