SPOnG has reported some news on the console front. The article states that ATI will be providing the next generation motherboard/video chipset for MS' next generation article. A huge deal for ATI if it's true.
Senior development sources in the UK have today revealed to us that Microsofts next generation Xbox will use an ATi graphics chipset, following Microsofts apparent inability to work cohesively with former provider nVidia.
Not known as the most forgiving company in the world, it seems that Microsoft has simply tired of the bitter arbitration it found itself involved in, following the breakdown of any productive working relationship with nVidia. As you may know, the Xboxs inordinately high production costs saw Microsoft put the squeeze on nVidia over its pricing for the Xboxs graphical heart. nVidia resisted, and no clear solution could be found, leaving both firms no option but to take to the arbitration table.
Although the two came out from negotiations full of smiles and handshakes, todays news clearly demonstrates that the rift became too big to breach, leaving Microsoft to turn to the only other company able to supply graphics power to Xbox 2s projected output.
It's a good thing. I think it's nice that ATI is finally getting their foot into other regions of graphics processing aspects. I myself have always bought ATI cards, and I always will probably. I just hope that the deal doesn't go sour, the folks at Microsoft are quite stubborn.
Wow, there's a big accomplishment, Gamecube sucks(in my opinion). But, is there anything out as to what it's comparable to? Like a Radeon 7500M, or a Radeon 8500, or even a Radeon 9800 Pro ? lol
ive had 4 seperate ati cards, and 4 seperate nvidia cards sicne 1998, and overall, i find the nvidia's to be better. The performance increases they get form new drivers alone is incredible. ATI cannot match that (20-30% increase) when it releases new drivers, even though it still raises its performance as well. I am about to purchase a maxed out alienware custom system ith an nvidia 5900 ultra. Spec for spec, the ati top model card just doesnt compete.
please xenn compare radeon 9800 pro with 256mb with the LEADING nvidia card? don't kid me, if you said leading geforced card i would say yes... but comparing to a quadro... the 9800 pro is fucking piece of shit
