The Dream-Maker

I've been meaning to post this for months...I just never get round to my sketch. Then about November I did the sketches, but never got round to posting it. Now I'm posting it, it's only a matter of months before I get round to opening them up in Fireworks and going at them with a vengeance.

But anyway, here's the sketches of the Dream-Maker (side, front, and head - which is too lagre), and the description from my writing piece.

----------

Quote:
Your average Dream-Maker stands at over 8 feet. It has a long, thin body with taper like arms and legs. Its hands have only two pointed fingers and a hooked thumb, and it’s feet end in points, with hooked heels, like an extra pair of thumbs. On its back are various fins that look like waves of an angry sea. Its eyes are like teardrops and are set into the side of a head the likes of which appears only in your wildest fantasies. From the front it looks like a perfectly round, ball shaped head. But if you look from the side you see differently. 3 feet long, the head is shaped like another tear drop, curving downwards. The Dream-maker has no visible mouth, and no nose like you or I, instead it has two slits for nostrils. It is also the colour of Midnight. Every inch of the Dream-Makers skin is the colour of Midnight on a moonless, and starless night. The colour of creation from the very centre. The colour seen by the Higher powers as they look out at it. The only thing darker than it’s skin, is a Dream-Makers eyes. Pure black. Light reflects off it’s body, but none can be seen in the eyes. Not even a glimmer.

These fearsome creatures flit around in dreams. Dreams of places. Dreams of worlds. Dreams of creation.

I once had some Dream-Maker eggs on a flight to XR7.

I was reading The Hobbit out of boredom the other day and it reminded me alot of your Imp series Lenny. You have a very similar style of writing to the beginning of the book. After a while he really gets into telling the story and not so much as setting the scene and moods though.

Dream-Maker eggs? What are those?

And yes, my style is very similar to a lot of authors. Those who I've read a lot of, or read a lot, are the ones I'm most influenced by. Tolkein a bit, Pratchett and Douglas Adams a lot. I'm sure there's some others too. You'll see references to their works in my writings too. I just can't resist.

EDIT: Really? The start of The Hobbit? Any parts of The Hobbit and my Impy thing specifically? It'd be interesting to know where Lenny becomes Lenkein.

"When the Sands of Time had first begun to fall grain by grain the Higher Powers themselves made the dreams sleep has immortalised."

Only sentence that didn't make sense to me, but otherwise, that's pretty damn cool.

"When the sands of time had first begun to fall, the Higher Powers themselves had made the dreams sleep has immortalised."

I think it's supposed to be.

Basically when time first began, it was the Gods known as the 'Higher Powers' that created the dreams people have when they're asleep. When their numbers began to dwindle, they passed this job on to the Dream-Makers.

Bah...I can't draw. Any tips on making things better?

-----

You know what the strange thing is? The idea itself was a dream. For some reason I find that rather funny at the moment.

So when I write the dream parts (they'll be in first person, seen through the eyes of the dreamer), you'll be having a look inside my head.

HA! That's a scary thought.

The dreams themselves will be dreams in a book about dreams written as an idea derived from a dream.

Whoo! I could go on all night...

I'm hyper now...

That's put the biggest smile on my face allllll day.

It makes more sense now, now that I know how it's said. However...how about..."When the sands of time had first begun to fall, the Higher Powers themselves had made the dreams that sleep had immortalised."

On a side note...that little creature you made is fun to doodle...I'd like a detailed description on its features, por favor.

sorta looks like a zora from the zelda games...... except it's black...... and no wing thingies...... is this an extension of your imp stories?

"The dreams themselves will be dreams in a book about dreams written as an idea derived from a dream." lol..... classic..... hey, do you ever have dreams where it's a full clear coherent movie in your head and actually has a good plot? i used to be able to, but not anymore

I had one last night. *shrug* The guy who plays the cop in Bones was in it. In it my son and I were being chased, my husband died in an accident whereas my son and I survived, I freaked out about it, cop comforted me, the cop guy took us to a very scenic mountain overview to try and hide us, son and I went sightseeing, I realized I was starting to get a crush on the cop, and then my son and I got caught in the rain and tried to seek shelter in a small village. Then I woke up.

It's not an extension of the Imp stories, no, but set in the same...Solar System if you like.

Bit of thingy here:

Most of these books are set in a place called Muldrum. Muldrum is made up of 7 different planets/worlds:

- Escalote
- Neuropia
- San Breano
- Klomar
- Aluirian
- Quymaj
- Lehgard

Each world is different to the others. For example, Klomar is in a state of permanent winter, San Breano is one big desert, and Lehgard is a giant jungle. Quymaj was once very industrial, like one big machine but is now radioactive wasteland, Neuropia is a giant sea with lots of islands, and Aluirian and Escalote are most like our own world, except fantasy worlds (Escalote is more like the fairy tale version).

The Imp books and the ones concerning the Prophet Lenny take place on Escalote, this book takes place in the Dream-world of Quymaj.

----------

I think I musta been playing a lot of Kingdom Hearts before my dream that started this. If you look at the Basic Heartless (soldiers I think they are...), and then my drawings and the description, you see a lot of similarities. Especially with those shown in the "Another Side, Another Story" video.

----------

And yes, I do have very clear dreams. For the past year and a half or so, my dreams have been extremely clear. I can probably guess why, but I'm not telling. I can usually remember dreams for a week or two normally, but if they're really good I never forget them. The majority of my Muldrum things I'm writing are based on such dreams (about 16 or 17 out of 21 ain't bad), including this and my latest idea.
