VCRs

Its well known that VCRs are on the way out. DVDs will be used completely in a couple of years. I for one like this primative form of entertainment, but I'm trying to find out. How long will it take before DVDs are the ONLY thing on the market and VCRs are no longer produced? I'll miss them, but out with the old and in with the new.

it will be much longer just because there are still so many poor peaple that dont want to pay the extra $$$ to get a dvd player when they could just get a really kickass VCR for really cheap.

dude those dvd player can be bought for only 80 bucks now a days!! i use to work for a video company and i had so many input about vcr and dvds!!
yes sooner or later everyone will have a dvd player, but vcr will stay as long as they will make movies!! for one thing (if you go to blockbuster) you get good deals if you rent dvds rather than vhs....you rent 4 movies you get 4 free which is about 15 bucks save!! the thing is that vhs will out live the dvd!! once the dvd is scratched then the whole dam disk is bad! where as if the begining is bad all you have to do is fast forward...but with dvd you also get spiecal features and what not, and you can also go by chapters; being able to skip scens even faster..and with vhs well, it will out live the dvd disk.
not only that you can also make dvds to vcds and play it in your dvd player the thing IS.....vhs will out live your dvd player!!

I think they'll still be around for a bit, right now alot of the employers from 3d studios still want demo reel on VHS, It's a good method for recording stuff off TVs without getting a TV tuner card.

I would have to say when something that is even better than DvDs comes out is when VHS will die

2-3 years at the most.

Box top DVD recorders are already available, just costly. If the price on them comes down as fast as DVD recorders for computers did though then they'll be commonplace soon.

Some peope are also buying digital recording devices as they are in an affordable bracket. If you have Bell Express Vu you can get the 5800 reciever for $549 Canadian which has digital recording built in, not too sure what the recording length was off hand, but it was a lot. =)

I got both Xbox and PS2 but I rather go buy a DvD player(why? probly a 5cd holder thats why)


VHS will take much longer to die, trust me... 3years max? Insano

VHS will definitely last a while because first of all, we gotta wait for all the people that rather push in a tape in a slot, and press play. Unlike dvd's where you have to go through the menu. Older people would rather just not bother thinking its super complicated. But it is a lot harder to collect VHS than dvd's, all your tapes can be replaced by a binder.

just watch it though because the dvd part (of the ps2) might burn out and when that happens you cant play games that has a bit of dvd quality in them, i know because i have been recieving ps2 that has the same mishaps :-( just dont over use the dvd in EITHER xbox and or ps2.................just get a dvd player like acer :-)


anyways some people still buy vcr because all the dvd invlockbuster is ALWAYS rented out espiecialy on a rainy holliday, they get the vhs in stead a lot of people dont want to watch the spiecal feat

naw if you want to buy a dvd player i think you should go with sony...does that 34.99 apex dvd player at sears have warranty on that piece?? if so, then that is a good deal :-P

I figure theas worthless things will be arond for a good 10 years more. For the simple fact that poor people can not aford DVD players or they are just to complicated for some people.

well if you think about it, dvd players is as much as vcrs...

they just dont make dvds like they use to and they are now losing people's trust! i'm STILL keeping my vcr :-P

I say that VHS will survive for two reasons.

1. You can still buy tapes. CDs have been out for over a decade, yet you can still buy tapes.

2. DVD rental sucks. People don't take care of them because they don't own them and they leave them places and they fall down and get scratched, etc. VHS has media-protection mechanisms. For videos I am buying, I only buy DVDs now, but if I'm renting, I want a tape.

VCR's will be made for a long time to come. Just like tape recorders stilla re made.
