Proving that the biggest franchise in PC game history still has legs, EA today announced The Sims Superstar, another expansion to its top-selling life simulation title. Superstar removes its Sims from the day-to-day drudgery of ordinary life and catapults them to fame -- your virtual people may experience the life of a Rock Star, Movie Star, or Supermodel, far removed from the suburban world familiar to fans of the series.
Life as a Sim-star begins in the new world of Studio Town, where directors, agents, producers, and designers mingle in all the familiar environs of the entertainment and fashion industries. New social interaction features allow aspiring Sims to work their way up the various ladders of stardom, with their success ranked by the new Fame score.
Outside the studio, successful Sims can outfit their mansions with new items and support characters suitable to to a rich and famous lifestyle -- butlers, masseuses, sushi chefs, and groupies all have services to provide, while satellite dishes, expensive artwork, trendy furnishings, and spa facilities substantially up the keeping-up-with-the-Joneses ante.
There's even a new "skydiving simulator" object, the potential of which sounds considerable. Success in the one arena is key to sustaining the other, of course. Failing to maintain one's place at the forefront of the entertainment world naturally makes it hard to maintain the lifestyle to which one is accustomed. Superstar is due for release in May, bringing the total selection of Sims expansions to a whopping six. Check out the first screens here, and expect further news in the near future.
