Starcraft: Ghost Information - Gibb @ 9:03:26 PM
So far, here is what we know.
Blizzard's "Project X" is, so far, a Playstation 2 only game, being worked on by Blizzard with Nihilistic Software, Inc. It is called Starcraft: Ghost, and it will be a third-person tactical shooter, in the goes of a ghost named Nova. The game has a preliminary release date of late 2003.
It looks as though the game will be loosely based on the original Starcraft, here's what Bill Roper had to say about that over at PS2.IGN.com.
As we are creating our game worlds, and going through and figuring out what happens, there's a lot of areas that don't get touched on, or maybe only get alluded to," Blizzard Vice President Bill Roper tells us. "And so the idea with StarCraft: Ghost is to kind of fit that into maybe what you know, and maybe what you've guessed at and don't know, and where things might be going in the future with StarCraft as well. We want it to be a very integral part of the entire storyline that's been built up."
In the initial press release, here are some interesting items from Blizzard.
In StarCraft: Ghost, players take the role of Nova, a lethal Ghost operative skillfully trained in the arts of espionage and tactical combat. Twenty years of ruthless physical conditioning and techno-psychological instruction have made Nova a being of terrifying potential. With the help of a determined group of allies, players follow a series of story-driven missions, engaging in a deadly mix of planetary battles and dangerous solo operations. To complete their mission objectives, players must execute intelligent tactical decisions while mastering an advanced arsenal of sophisticated weaponry.
Were very excited about returning to the StarCraft series, stated Mike Morhaime, Blizzard Entertainment president and co-founder. Our roots are based in console gaming, and we look forward to developing this universe for the next-generation console systems.
Blizzard has also launced a brand new section on their website devoted to Starcraft: Ghost. Check it out here. Within that section, Blizzard has already created an elaborate FAQ, addressing many of your concerns, including the question of whether or not SC2 will ever be made (Yes, but not now.) Check out the FAQ here.
