The News We All Want!! And GOD DAMN IT!

If you don't know it...E3 Conferences started today.

And man, did Sony let the details out!

PS3 Release Date and Price!!

We all knew it was a November release. Well, it's Nov. 17th for USA AND Europe...with a price of, wait for it (please don't shoot the messenger):

Release Date USA, Nov. 17th
Price: 20GB 499 USD
Price: 60GB $599 USD

Release Date Europe, Nov. 17th
Price: 20GB 499 EUR
Price: 60GB 599 EUR

GOD DAMN! That's £410...unless I import it from the US, then it's only £321.

---

Erm, controller...yeah...boring...Dual Shock controller. Though with NO vibration, and instead they've got similar technology to the Nintendo Wii controller - it has sensors so if you move it, something in the game moves.

Oh just read it!!

November 17th is a very good day. And not because of some crappy sony console, but because I get back from my deployment that day.

I guess PS3 is cool tho.

Incorrect. The Dual Shock 3 has tilt sensitivity, not motion sensitivity. The difference is this: the Wii-mote is capable of sending control signals to the console through any form of movement. If you move the remote up, down, left right, jab it towards the screen, pull it away from the screen, turn it on it's side, swing the remote, etc, it will register as a control command. The PS3 controller only accepts tilt functionality, which is the same technology as the control interface used in games such as Kirby Tilt n' Tumble, WarioWare Twisted and Yoshi Topsy Turvy. The controller responds to being tilted left, right, forward, backward or on diagonals. Basically imagine that you're turning your entire controller into one big joystick and that's what you've got.

The Wii-mote does far more. You can play FPS games by aiming and firing with the remote as if it's your gun, which the DS3 cannot do. You can simulate sword strokes in a Zelda game with the Wii-mote, which the DS3's tilt-sensing technology cannot do. You can use the Wii-mote as a fishing rod, baseball bat, tennis racket, football, conductor's wand, paintbrush, torch, flashlight, gun or any other number of limitless gameplay possibilities. The DS3's tilt-sensitivity allows it to be used as a steering wheel and a big joystick. That's basically it.

I'm not trying to downplay the coolness of adding another layer of depth to the Playstation controller. It's definitely nice to see they've done something to offer a deeper experience in terms of control. But, don't compare it to what Nintendo is doing. Sony is adding another sweet perk to an already great controller. Nintendo is offering you a completely new, revolutionary way to play games. The two are not on the same level.

Only thing I don't agree with there is that your calling the PS3 controller, "Dual Shock 3" which it can not be because there is no more rumble feature. As of now, no name for the controller is known, so we can just call it the PS3 controller for the time being. Well, at least it's not misleading.

lol, I had to say something.

No, you are correct about the lack of rumble. I simply refer to it as such in reference to the design of the shell. The name just signifies the model of the controller to me, like Wavebird or Controller S. Dual Shock means, to me, a Playstation controller with bigger secondary trigger and dual analog sticks.

Aight sounds good, I just wanted to point out that the name is gonna change. I brought it up because of people that dont call them Dual Shock, but rather ps controller, etc.

Good enough though.

Well as far as the price goes. Weren't the reps saying that it should be price twice as much as it is now because it's worth 1,000 or something?

It should be more than twice as much. Just for the Blu-Ray player alone it would cost twice as much. Then you've got everything inside it that will cost a bomb.

It'd be interesting to see how much Sony loses per console when they're released.

So basically Sony is spending $1,000 per console on shitty, unnecessary technology.

Cool.

If the PS3 does as well as Sony hopes it will, it will dramatically reduce the proce of Blu-Ray players - everyone with a PS3 will have one anyway. And it will pave the way for a new technology.

PS1 had CD.
PS2 had DVD.
PS3 has BR.

And for their next gen console they're supposed to go with the same graphics they've already got, and the same processor the PS2 has got? Yeah, that's gonna sell well.

I meant the blu-ray in particular. It's overly expensive and kind of ridiculous.

Every new techonology costs a lot when it first comes out. Blu-Ray is no exception.

If it's popular then the price will fall, and we'll start seeing Blu-Ray players everywhere - Blu-Ray players for films (replacing DVD Players), Blu-Ray Recorders, Blu-Ray drives in the computer.

Meh. Sony want to put in a component that is more likely to flop than be a hit, who are we to stop them?

We're the customers, that's who. If it just costs too-damn-much, we won't buy it.

So, in terms of storage, it dominates HD-DVD dramatically.

So in the long run, games can be bigger and longer, plus the xbox 360 only uses DVD-9, so lets see here, a 9gb game verses a game that can be 50gb, no contest here.

The Processor could also be used in computers too.

Your not gonna win.

The whole unit can be used as a computer.

And as for the 9gb vs. 50gb - GTA on one disc for PS3 = GTA on 4 discs for 360? Then again, Microsoft are bringing out a HD-DVD add on for the 360, why not a BR one in the future?
