Empire Interactive Signs Games Rights to MGM's Forthcoming Action-Adventure Film Bulletproof Monk
Monday March 10, 8:05 am ET

SAN FRANCISCO, March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Empire Interactive today announced that it has signed the interactive videogame rights to the eagerly awaited Hollywood martial arts film, Bulletproof Monk. The game, which is being developed by UK-based Mucky Foot Productions and will be published by Empire, is slated to roll out this holiday season nationwide on all leading console and PC platforms.

Licensed from MGM Interactive, the game will follow the premise film; yet will add some new and interesting twists to the plot. Debuting in U.S. theaters this April, the film is based on the comic book published by Flypaper Press in 1999. Internationally acclaimed director/producer John Woo and Terrance Chang's production company, Lion Rock Productions, is producing the film.

In Bulletproof Monk, a mysterious monk with no name has zigzagged the globe to protect an ancient scroll -- the Scroll of the Ultimate -- that holds the key to unlimited power. Now the monk must find a protege, the scroll's next guardian. Kar is an unlikely candidate, but when he saves the Bulletproof Monk from capture, the two become partners in a scheme to save the world from the scroll's most avid pursuer. Together with the help of a sexy and elusive young woman called Bad Girl, they seek out and face the ultimate enemy in a spectacular final battle packed with dazzling effects and action.

"Empire is pleased to work with MGM Interactive on Bullet Proof Monk as the film sets a strong stage to make an epic game franchise," said Jimmy Lamorticelli, General Manager for North America. "Empire's intent is to build a compelling and unique gaming experience that will captivate all gaming audiences."

"In collaborating with Empire, we continue our strong forward momentum in selecting quality partners to bring our unparalleled film content into the realm of interactive videogames," added Neil Haldar, Vice President of Production and Business Development, MGM Interactive. "We look forward to working together in developing this film title into a variety of compelling and challenging videogames as we continue to excel in this rapidly growing market."
