Anyway, thre was a similar scheme that was voted out of the House of Commons over here, because it was invasion of privacy - ID cards that contained biometric data and such like.

In principal, it's not that bad an idea... if only used for ID purposes. Before long, something like this could turn into more monitoring by the government, and heaven knows we're monitored enough as it is.
